A 66-year-old Captain Cook man charged with murder in connection with a Tuesday night shooting is slated to make his initial court appearance Friday.

James Bonham was charged Thursday evening with second-degree murder, according to the Hawaii Police Department. Bail was set at $50,000 pending his initial court appearance today in Kona District Court.

The charge stems from a reported shooting in the 83-5000 block of Middle Keei Road in Captain Cook, according to police, who were sent the area at 9:09 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, officers located a 45-year-old man with an injury consistent with a gunshot, police said. The victim was later pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.

Police said his name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next-of-kin. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
