Teruko Inoue

Teruko Inoue, 100, of Hilo, died April 28, 2020 at a private care home. Born Jan. 2, 1920, in Hakalau, she was a homemaker, member of Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission and former member of Keaau Senior Citizen Group and Big Island Bonsai Association.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by daughter, Karen Inoue of Hilo; sisters, Kayo (Hiroshi) Kawai of Gardena, Calif., Mie (Edwin) Kuramoto of Anaheim, Calif.; four grandsons; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Beverly Uhr

Beverly Grace Uhr, 60, of Ninole, died May 9, 2020, at her residence. Born in Honolulu, she was a civil engineer for Bill’s Engineering on Oahu.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by husband, Jeff Uhr of Ninole, daughters, Ara Uhr and Zoe Uhr, both of Ninole; sisters, Jan (Jeff) Strauss of New Jersey, Sharon (Melvin) Muranaka of Keaau, and Patricia (Ricardo) Ximenes of New Mexico; brothers, Greg (Geri) Ing of Maui, and David (Deanna) Ing of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Fumie Kawano

Fumie Kawano, 88, of Hilo, died May 3, 2020, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retired registered nurse at the former Hilo Hospital and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services held. Family request no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

She is survived by sons, Gavin (Jean) Kawano and Kyle (Kathy Kosaka) Kawano, all of Hilo; daughters, Joni (Anthony) Garcia of Henderson, Nevada, and Cara Gebhard of Pearl City, Oahu; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Merle Martin

Merle Martin, 88, of Ocean View, died April 29, 2020. Born Dec. 27, 1931, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was an administrative office coordinator for the Center of Independent Living, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the EAA.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by stepdaughters, Dawn De Leon of Ocean View and Laura Sharpe of Waimea; stepsons, David Sharpe and Charles Sharpe of Ocean View and Gordon (Damien Trask) Sharpe of Kurtistown; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Chisholm

Dorothy L. Chisholm, 98, of Kailua-Kona, died May 8, 2020 at Marilyn’s Care Home. Born May 19, 1921, in Howard, Missouri, she was a housewife.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by her daughter, Paige (Ross) Honda of Holualoa; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren.

Takeno Honda

Takeno Honda, 99, of Keaau, died April 28, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 17, 1920, in Honomu, she was a homemaker and member of Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by son, Glenn (Renee) Honda of Colorado; daughter, Brenda (David) Cabatbat of Keaau; sisters, Chieko Machida and Miyako Yano of Honolulu; one granddaughter; one grandson; three great-granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Laub

Elizabeth Loraine Laub, 82, of Waimea, died May 14, 2020, in Waimea. Born April 4, 1938, in Tucson, Arizona, she worked in public relations.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by husband Ronald Laub; son, D. Alan Cooksey of Los Angeles; daughter Carrie (Steve) McClanahan Cooksey of Ripon, California; stepsons Rick (Gabriel) Laub of Big Fork, Montana, and Gary (Kathleen) Laub of Ventura, California; stepdaughter Jody Laub of Scotts Valley, California; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Beatrice Abe

Beatrice Toshiko Abe, 97, of Hilo and formerly of Laupahoehoe, died April 22, 2020 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Facility. Born July 31, 1922, in Papaaloa, she was retired from the former Kurohara’s Shop for Men as a sales clerk, a member of the Papaaloa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and long-time volunteer at Hawaii Island Adult Care.

Private services were held. No flowers or koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by caregivers, Sergio and Ruth Cabal of Hilo; sons, Randall (Linda Mae) Abe of Kaneohe, Oahu, Mervyn Abe of Oregon and Lance (Amy) Abe of Hilo; daughter, Joyce Yamamoto of Hilo; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Jesse Minamishin

Jesse Tetsuo Minamishin, 48, of Captain Cook, died May 11, 2020, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Dec. 29, 1971 in Kealakekua, he was a maintenance worker for Spiffy, former long-time employee for Sakamoto Electric, a fisherman and a boatbuilder.

He is survived by mother, May Pinaki Minamishin; daughter, Jessica (Shawn Baniaga) Minamishin all of Kailua-Kona; son, Jimmy (Kinohi Lee) Minamishin of Holualoa; stepchildren, Keola Asagra, Ioane Asagra, Kaulana Crisafi, Kealia Crisafi, Dana Crisafi all of Captain Cook; brothers, Harold (Jodi) Minamishin of Honolulu, Alan Minamishin, Clarence Minamishin, Jr. all of Kailua-Kona; wife, Kanani Crisafi of Captain Cook; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron Yamamoto

Ron “Chub” Yamamoto, 70, died May 9, 2020 at his residence in Hilo. Born in Lahaina, Maui, he was a real estate project manager for Chris Brilhante Realty Inc., an anthurium farmer, accountant and coach.

He is survived by wife, Pearl Yamamoto of Hilo; daughters, Kristy (Ken) Kurizaki of Honolulu and Lisa (Samuel Kang) Yamamoto of Hilo; brother, Lester (Laura) Yamamoto of Honolulu; grandchildren; numerous aunts,uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Harry Kalima Jr.

Harry “Butch” M. Kalima Jr., 61, of Hilo, died April 24, 2020 at home. Born March 24, 1959 in Hilo, he was the owner of Aqua Tech Pool Services and a former press operator for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, and a member of the Waiakea Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by spouse, Kelly Kalima of Hilo; sons, Jeremy (Primefootage) Kalima of Hilo and Justin Kalima of Bellingham, Washington and Hilo; siblings, Shayne (Becky) Kalima of Fullerton, California, Kermitt (Faith) Kalima of Kaneohe, Oahu and Punett (Dennis) Maeda of Hilo.
