More people arrested, cited for violating stay-at-home order

Arrests and citations for violating Gov. David Ige’s stay-at-home order continue to climb.

Between May 13 and Tuesday, Hawaii Police Department officers arrested four people and cited 11 people for “prohibited acts” in violation of Ige’s order, according to statistics released Wednesday afternoon by the Hawaii Police Department.

In Kona, two people were arrested and five people cited, according to police. One person was arrested and three cited in Ka‘u. In South Kohala, three people were cited. In East Hawaii, Puna saw one person arrested.

In addition, three criminal cases were initiated; two in Kona and one in Hamakua.

Violation of the stay-at-home order is a misdemeanor offense that carries up to a year in jail and a fine of no more than $5,000. Since the start of the stay-at-home order at 12:01 a.m. March 25, Hawaii Police Department officers have arrested 98 and issued 237 citations.
