Rudolph Silva Jr.

Rudolph “Rudy” Kenneth Silva Jr., 65, of Hilo, died April 23, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 16, 1955 in Hilo, he retired as an auditor and bookkeeper for King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, a musician, and member of Halau O Ka Ua Kani Lehua, the Merrie Monarch committee and other organizations attributed to Hawaiiana.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 8 at Homelani Memorial Park, Japanese Garden, for a service. Masks must be worn. Flowers and leis are welcome.

He is survived by brother, Dwayne Silva; nieces, Ryenne White, Keala (Arthur) Rosario, Joy Bohol, Jachobe Bohol and Paige Silva; and extended family.

Robert Napeahi Jr.

Robert Kauhimakakuokalani Napeahi Jr., 84, of Keaukaha, died May 27, 2020. Born in Waiakea, he retired as a truck driver with the former HT &T and a member of the Keaukaha Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, softball coach for Hilo High School, member of the Senior Citizen Softball League, member of the Hilo Bay City Semi-Pro Football League, and served in the Hawaii National Guard.

He is survived by wife, Roselani Kalua Napeahi of Hilo; son, Joseph (Wanda) Napeahi of Kahuku; daughters, Lynette (Aubrey) Auna, Terri Napeahi, Laures Napeahi-Ulep and Kim Kuikahi, all of Keaukaha; brother, Jack (Carol) Napeahi of Panaewa; sisters, Roberta Howard of Walnut Creek, California, Helen (Red) Napeahi of Siera Vista, Arizona, and La Cher (Michael) Napeahi-Forcum of Milolii; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two uncles; numerous nieces and nephews.

Anita Cadaoas

Anita Filoteo Cadaoas, 89, of Mountain View, died April 21, 2020 at home. Born in Hilo, she worked at S.H.Kress and Pick &Pay, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Hilo.

She is survived by sons, Adrian (Shelia) Cadaoas of Hilo and Michael Cadaoas of Mountain View; daughter, Audrey (Louis Kolodij) Floyd of Florida; sister, Lillian Naihe of Hilo; brothers, Lawrence (Shirley) Castillias of Puna and Ronald Castillias of Puna; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sarah Hodgins

Sarah Elizabeth Hodgins, 100, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 12, 2020 at Larry’s Care Home. Born March 7, 1919, in Hopkins, Missouri, she was a housewife and member of Daughters of Hawaii Calabash Cousins, Kona Historical Society and Christ Church Episcopal.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by daughters, Sally Inkster of Captain Cook, and Suzy (Mark) Donavan of Bennington, Vermont; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne Whiteside

Wayne Whiteside, 74, of Captain Cook, died May 26, 2020 at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 2, 1945, in Chicago, he was a professional sales closer, and member of Berwyn Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason, Shriners and a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by wife, Josephine Whiteside of Captain Cook; sons, Mark (Christy) Whiteside of Illinois and Luke (Nipah) Whiteside of California; daughters, Tammy Jo Whiteside of California, and Tanya Jo Whiteside of Hawaii; sister, Shirley Whiteside of Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Andrew Chong

Andrew Dai Choy Chong, 61 of Keaau, died May 22, 2020 at his home. Born in Hilo, he worked for Yamada Transfer, Inc., Big Island Removal, Pizza Hut (Puainako), McDonalds (Walmart), Kamaaina Motors, and The Home Depot, and was a member of the Kamana Senior Center’s bonsai and ceramics classes.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Ann Chong of Keaau; sons, Richard Chong and Brandon Chong of Keaau; sisters, Sandra (Terry Strack) Chong of Honolulu, Claire (Anthony) Fernandez of Keaau and Emma Chong of Hilo; brother, Clayton (Edwina) Chong of Honolulu; numerous nieces and a nephew.

Kyle Fukunaga

Kyle “Narts” “Fuks” Sachio Fukunaga, 43, of Hilo, died May 23, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 18, 1977, in Hilo, he was a mechanic and tile setter.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by daughter, Kyrha Fukunaga-Gonsalves of Hilo; parents, Kazumi and Margie Fukunaga of Hilo; brother, Kevin (Keiko) Fukunaga of Hilo; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Henry Abellera Sr.

Henry N. Abellera Sr., 84, of Pahala, died May 14, 2020. Born July 15, 1935 in Puukolii, he was a field supervisor for C. Brewer &Co., a Staff Sergeant in the National Guard, and a member of the Ninth Island Vegas Club and 808 Telephone Walaau Club.

He is survived by wife Anastacia Abellera; daughters, Holliday (Ronald) Wade, Charisse (Mel) Tsukamoto, Candy Abellera; sons, Darren (Catherine) Abellera, Henry Abellera Jr., Drake (Kristine) Abellera; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Brannock Au Sr.

Brannock D. Au Sr., 66, of Volcano, died March 23, 2020. Born Jan. 7, 1954, in Honolulu, he grew up in Ka’a’awa, attended St. Ann’s School in Kaneohe, and graduated from James B. Castle High School, Class of 1973. He was a state ranked moto cross bike rider in the hills above Kahuku during his high school years. He moved to the Big Island in the mid 1970’s and worked on a variety of projects with his father and brother at William R. Au, Jr. General Contracting.

He is survived by son, Brannock Au Jr.; daughters, Puanani, Shawnna-Lei and Calenna-Lani; brothers, Wedemeyer and Rusty; sisters, Marlene, Sharon, Vannassa; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 15 nieces and nephews; three aunties and many cousins.

Irene Keaupuni

Irene Pearl Keaupuni, 93, of Pearl City, Oahu, died May 15, 2020 at Marites Domingo’s Care Home in Captain Cook. Born Nov. 12, 1926, in Honolulu, she was a floral lei maker.

She is survived by sons, John (Penny) Souza of Kealakekua and Martin (Mokihana) Adams of Waipio; hanai son, Johnny Adams of Alaska; daughter, Patricia Souza of Pearl City, Oahu; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Leialoha Umiamaka

Leialoha Joy Umiamaka, 43, of Hookena, died May 27, 2020 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Feb. 22, 1977, in Honolulu, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by companion, Saa Abbott of Hookena; sons, Kaleo Umiamaka of Alaska, Jason Umiamaka of Montana, and Keoni Umiamaka of Hookena; daughter, Loihi Umiamaka of Hookena; mother, Debbie (Albert) Neves of Discovery Harbor; brother, Jude Noah Umiamaka of Las Vegas; stepbrother, Dan Neves of Austin, Texas; sisters, Wailani Umiamaka of Waimea, Hoku (Nathan Spencer) Umiamaka of Kailua-Kona; half-sister, Lehualani Lampro of Oahu; two grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hisako Kaku

Hisako “Millie” Kaku, 99, of Hilo, died May 18, 2020 at a private care home. Born Aug. 25, 1920, in Hilo, she was retired from the former Fashion House.

She is survived by sons, Rodney Kaku and Elton (Leanora) Kaku of Hilo; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Franklin DeBina

Franklin “Frankie” Andrew Fredenburg DeBina, 58, of Napoopoo, died May 22, 2020, at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 18, 1962 in Kealakekua, he was a stone mason and landscaper for Hokulia, waterman, fisherman, member and volunteer for Hoala Kealakekua.

Diane D’Orazio

Diane Huey D’Orazio, 62, of Hawi, died May 28, 2020, at her residence. Born Nov. 25, 1957 in Miami, she was a retired veterinarian, a former veterinarian for Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke and a volunteer for Hawaii Wildlife Center.

Service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hawaii Wildlife Center or North Hawaii Hospice.

She is survived by husband, John D’Orazio of Hawi; sons, Brennan D’Orazio of North Carolina, Cory D’Orazio of Honolulu; sisters, Mary Parikh, Charlotte (Monty) Baker all of Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard “Rich” John Wagner, 53, of Holualoa, died May 26, 2020, at Nakamaru Hale. Born June 24, 1966 in Sonoma, California, he was a general contractor, corporate director for Na Kalai Laau Woodshop and member of Kai Opua Canoe Club.
