The search for a 20-year-old North Kohala man last seen while freediving off Mahukona continued Thursday with negative results as of press time.

The third day of searching for Malcolm Davis turned up no sign of the man last seen Tuesday morning when he went spearfishing with seven friends, according to the Hawaii Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard.

While diving, Davis became separated from the group, according to the Coast Guard. After they were unable to find Davis, the friends returned to their car, drove inland, and tried to find cell service to report the situation shortly after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Davis was last seen wearing white board shorts and black fins, according to the Coast Guard. He is reportedly a good swimmer.

Coast Guard operations ceased late Thursday afternoon, and the Hawaii Fire Department said it had yet to be determined if they would continue the search for a fourth day.

Involved in the search were divers, Jet Ski operators and rescue boat crew with the Hawaii Fire Department, Chopper 1 and Chopper 2, the Maui Fire Department, an Air Station Barbers Point HC-130 Hercules aircrew, an Air Station Barbers Point MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Oliver Berry.
