Betty McPherson
Betty McPherson, 95, of Naalehu, died May 30, 2020, at home. Born Jan. 28, 1925 in Central Lake, MI, she was retired from Berhends Bank in Juneau, Alaska, a Girl Scout leader, a square dancer, and a member of Ocean View Baptist Church.

She is survived by husband, Harold McPherson of Naalehu; daughters, Joyce McPherson of Port Townsend, WA, and Sharon Madsen of Naalehu; sisters, Doris, Dorothy, and Karen all of Michigan; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter Olival
Peter Olival, 69, of Honokaa, died June 1, 2020 at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born Dec. 5, 1950, in Hilo, he was a noni (tropical fruit) farmer.

Patricia Ann Carvalho, 88, of Hilo died May 22, 2020, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Makawao, she was a retired nurse’s aide at the Life Care Center of Hilo, member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Big Island Portuguese Culture Club.

He is survived by daughter, Judy (Gary) Puniwai of Kurtistown; son, Jerret Carvalho of Hilo; brother, James (Carol) Tavares of Kula; sister, Eileen Mattos of Makawao; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce Jo Macdonald, 88, of Captain Cook, died March 28, 2020, at her residence. Born Nov. 1, 1931, in Idabel, OK, she was a former registered nurse at the Kona Community Hospital and a member of the South Kona Senior Citizens Group.

Joseph Alleman
Joseph “Joe” B. Alleman, 89, of Hilo, died April 8, 2020 at her residence. Born Sept. 25, 1930, in Church Point, Louisiana, he was a retired para-medical assistant at Hilo Medical Center, member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou, and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Earl Edman Lamson II, 70, of Captain Cook, died June 2, 2020, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Dec. 20, 1949 in La Junta, Colorado, he was a retired airframe and powerplant mechanic, a former small airplane repair business owner, bricklayer, commercial salmon fisherman and farmer.

Itsue Hino
Itsue Higashi Hino, 100, of Ahualoa died May 22, 2020, at her residence. Born in Honokaa, she was a retired elementary school teacher in Hawaii and Guam.

John “Rip” Joseph Repasky, 90, of Kailua-Kona, died June 10, 2020, at his residence. Born Oct. 5, 1929 in New Derry, Pennsylvania, he was a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant and a retired FAA electronics technician.
