Hawaiian Solar &Plumbing donates to The Food Basket
Hawaiian Solar &Plumbing recently donated an additional $3,300 to The Food Basket. The money was raised via a program during the Month of May in which for every solar water heater the company installed, $300 was donated to The Food Basket.
The company in April donated $20,000 to the island’s lone food bank.
Employees receive support from resort
King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel employees and their families received extra support from the resort in early June during a special drive-through care package event. More than 140 team members took home boxes of locally sourced food, including bread from Punaluu Bakery, fresh fish from Kona Fish Co. and Fresh Island Fish, cookies from Standard Bakery, rice from Hilo Rice Mill as well as much more, courtesy of the resort and generous local businesses.
“We can all use more aloha during this difficult time. It’s a sincere pleasure for us to celebrate our employees, show our appreciation and let them know how much we look forward to welcoming them back to the resort when it is safe to re-open,” said Scott Pauli, general manager, Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.
AlohaCare donates funds and masks
AlohaCare is donating a total of $150,000 to local nonprofit organizations, including those in Hawaii County, that help families and individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation includes monetary contributions to food banks; masks for health care workers at community health centers; and support for those impacted by domestic violence.
To increase personal protective equipment on Hawaii Island, AlohaCare donated KN95 masks to Hamakua Health Center, Bay Clinic and West Hawaii Community Health Center. In addition to donating masks, AlohaCare provided $10,000 to The Food Basket to help them keep up with the demand for food and distribution efforts.
“Neighbor island residents and those living in rural communities are having a particularly hard time and we want to make sure that resources are getting to them,” added Culley-Trotman.
Domestic Violence Action Center received $10,000 to support its 24/7 texting service for individuals during the state’s work-from-home/stay-at-home mandate. On Hawaii Island, DVAC serves as a resource for professionals and civic groups to assist victims, and can refer residents who contact DVAC to local sources of support. Their new text line is (605) 956-5680.
Finally, AlohaCare provided a $10,000 grant to Kukulu Switchboard, a new online platform to identify and aggregate community needs for organizations and donors statewide, which can be accessed by Hawaii Island nonprofits. These efforts were made possible with the partnership of The Hawaii Alliance for Nonprofit Organizations, Hawaii Investment Ready and Next Gen Donor Hui.
