Realtors donate to The Food Basket
The newly established Charitable Foundation of Hawaii Realtors recently donated $12,500 to The Food Basket.
A check was presented Thursday to Executive Director Kristin Frost Albrecht and Marshall Akaumu, West Hawaii Operations Manager of The Food Basket, by Don Watson, director of the foundation, Andee Bemrose, 2020 president of the West Hawaii Association of Realtors and Dennis Yates, 2020 president of the Hawaii Island Realtors during the monthly Ohana Food Drop at the Kona Community Aquatic Center in Kailua-Kona.
The funds are part of a $50,000 donation by the state association to benefit food banks on each island.
“We are honored to be able to contribute these funds to help families and individuals in need who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19,” said Watson of Don Watson Realty and a foundation board member.
Law’s repeal may create problem for real estate licensees, sellers
Everyone loves that smooth real estate sale that glides along through the sale process without problems related to escrow, financing, disclosures, and title. In the selling and buying process, however, hiccups and speed bumps can occur.
One such speed bump can be the repeal on July 1 of Chapter 514A, HRS, the development law enacted in 1978 to clarify and provide guidance to developers of condominiums, the West Hawaii Association of Realtors says. The repeal may create a problem for real estate licensees and sellers by preventing developers from keeping their developer’s public reports active and accurate. Furthermore, numerous financial institutions require law compliant reports before issuing a mortgage or other loan thereby limiting sources of financing.
To mitigate the effect of the repeal, the Legislature granted developers the ability to transfer to the newer condominium law, Chapter 514B, HRS, thus allowing developers to continue sales while updating their developers public report with required seller disclosures. Many developers have already transitioned their projects to the newer law by filing updated reports; however, a sizable number have apparently yet to update with the Hawaii Real Estate Branch and will thus be unable to engage in legal sales after July 1.
Developers whose reports are not active and accurate will be required to re-register their projects under chapter 514B, HRS, in order to engage in legal sales and thereby may incur significant monetary costs and delays initial sales.

QNHCH welcomes new provider
Jennifer Hashimoto, APRN-Rx, MSN, FNP-BC, has joined the primary care team at Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea. Hashimoto earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo and completed post-baccalaureate research training at the National Institute of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing as well as a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Hashimoto began her nursing career at Kona Community Hospital. After earning her APRN-FNP, she worked at the Lanai Community Health Center and then joined the primary care team at Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital.
