Rizalino Namnama

Rizalino Pasion Namnama, 94, of Keaau, died April 8, 2020 at her residence, Born Nov. 24, 1925, in Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte, Philippines; he was a papaya picker for AMFAC Tropical Products in Keaau and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may 5 p.m. July 8 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9:30 a.m. July 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for Mass followed by burial at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section) at 10:30 a.m.

He is survived by wife, Lapaz Namnama of Keaau; sons, Rodrigo (Medelina) Namnama, Abraham (Delia) Namnama, Lightner (Marjorie) Namnama and Silvano (Imelda Gertrudes) Namnama all of Paradise Park; daughters, Romana (Pedro, Jr.) Miguel of Keaau, Medita Namnama (Tito) Padamada of Paradise Park and Remy (Louie Miguel) Namnama of Honolulu, 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calvin Shindo

Calvin “Cal” Katsuichi Shindo, 73, of Hilo died June 1,2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was an entrepreneur and proprietor of Hilo Soda Works and Mehana Brewing Co., and was employed at Alert Alarm Hawaii; a member of the Honomu Henjoji Mission, Waiakea Pirates Athletic Club and former Hilo Jaycees, and various other community organizations; and a veteran of the U.S. Army and Hawaii Army National Guard. Private services held.

He is survived by wife, Karen Shindo of Hilo; sons, Dustin Shindo and Ryan (Lois) Shindo all of Honolulu; mother, Tamae Shindo of Hilo; sister, Sandra (Melvin) Kawahara of Hilo; five grandchildren; uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Edwin DeSa Jr.

Edwin DeSa Jr., 63, of Pepeekeo died May 17, 2020, at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a printing press operator for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, part owner of the former DeSa’s Water Service and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. July 6 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for visitation; Mass will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.

He is survived by daughter, Marlene (Carlos Cerrillo) DeSa of Killeen, Texas; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Martin

Charles “Chuck” Leslie Martin, 78, of Hilo, died June 25, 2020 at home. Born Sept. 19, 1941, in Denver, he was a retired commercial airline pilot, owner of the former Pau Hana Lounge Bar and member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Loyal Order of Moose and Ancient Order of Foresters.

He is survived by companion, Geri Creech of Hilo; daughters, Jennifer Martin of Denver, Robin Bradbury of Texas, Allison Kaua and Laurie Waiau of Hilo; son, Alton Penrose of Hilo; and three grandchildren.

Barbara Kekaulua

Barbara Kamanu Kaheiki Kekaualua, 84, of Hilo, died April 10, 2020, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. She was born in Pumaile and was a factory worker with the former Mr. Papaya Co., a member of Ahahui Kaahumanu Helu Ekolu and owner and president of Hui Waa O Waiakea Canoe Club.

Private services held.

She is survived by sons, Bobby (Anna) Kekaualua of Kona, Ira (Erica) Kekaualua Jr. and Dru (Marlo) Kekaualua of Hilo, Hidey (Cheyenne) Kekaualua of Maui; daughters, Nani Kekaualua-Roan, Lisa Gail Kekaualua (David) Medeiros, Momi (Leighton) Leopoldino, Nami (Robert) Kekaualua and Manu (Ryan) Kekaualua, all of Hilo, Fanny (Bruce) Hashimoto of Kona; brothers, Francis (O’Tillie) Kaheiki of Tacoma, Wash., George (Kathleen) Kaheiki Sr. of Hilo and Steven Kaheiki of California; sisters, Rose Marie Chu and Gina Lei (Charles) Mahoe Jr. of California, Bernadette Roberts and Jeraldine Spencer of Hilo; hanai daughter, Kandi (Gary) Nakamoto of Kona; 53 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two aunts; numerous nieces and nephews.

Marueen Paradis

Maureen E.P. “Chickadee” Paradis, 83, Hilo, died June 16, 2020 at Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation &Nursing Center. Born Sept. 9, 1936, in Honolulu, she was a school bus aide for the Laupahoehoe Transit Co.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchildren.

Robert Sanborn

Robert Sanborn Jr., 83, of Kailua-Kona, died May 13, 2020, at Kaiser Permanente, Moanalua. Born Jan. 31, 1937, in Pahala, he was a retired senior construction inspector for the County of Hawaii Department of Public Works Division and a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Doris Sanborn of Kailua-Kona; daughters Arline (Wayne) Kabasawa of Mountain View, Robin (Red Gordon) Sanborn-Dant of Kailua-Kona; granddaughter, Ashley Shaw of Hilo; sisters, Harriet Sanborn of Bentona, MS, Lehua Leroux of Ventura, CA and Leilani Hill of Merlin, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eufemia Cruz

Eufemia S. Cruz, 92, of Pahala, died June 13, 2020 in Pahala. Born April 5, 1928, in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was retired from operating her certified nurse aide/certified care home, ran a Filipino pastry business and was a member of the Pahala Holy Rosary Church.

She is survived by daughter, Virginia (Gary) Winston of Oregon; sons, Eddie (Frances) Cruz of New Mexico, Danny (Karen) Cruz of California and Orlando Cruz of Pahala; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
