Yoshino Hanashiro

Yoshino Hanashiro, 95, of Honomu, died June 19, 2020 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born April 24, 1925, in Papaikou, she was retired from Hilo Hattie’s and member of Honomu Hongwanji Mission, Honomu Hongwanji Fujinkai and Hui Okinawa.

Private services were held.

She is survived by sons, Allan (Duen) Hanashiro of Las Vegas, Clyde Hanashiro of Honomu; daughter, Maxine Hanashiro of Hilo; three grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Fusae Suwa

Fusae Suwa, 91, of Kurtistown, died June 21, 2020, at a private care home. Born in Kurtistown, she was a retired sales clerk at KTA Super Stores and the former Sako Store, member of Kurtistown Jodo Mission and Fujinkai and Niigata Kenjin Kai.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

She is survived by sons, Alan (Paulette) Suwa of Honolulu, Wesley (Karen) Suwa of Hilo; daughters, Sharon (Leslie) Toyota of Kaneohe, Corinne (Charles Jr.) Kalani of Kurtistown; sister, Mitsue Tsuji of Kurtistown; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Florence McDonough

Florence “Pat” Elizabeth McDonough, 93, of Waimea, died May 25, 2020, at her residence. Born March 28, 1927 in Bronx, New York, she was a homemaker and a caregiver.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 10 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery for a service. For information call (808) 885-6894.

She is survived by sons, Robert McDonough and Michael McDonough both of Waimea; Brian (Patricia) McDonough of Arizona, Christopher McDonough of Honolulu; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Tina Gonsalves

Tina Gonsalves, 58, born on April 12, 1962, died July 1, 2020, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Hospice Facility. Any surviving relatives, should contact Ballard Family Mortuary (808) 935-8445.

Tion DeMello

Tion Kawaihona DeMello, 44, of Hilo died June 20, 2020 in Kona.

She is survived by son, Kayed (Tia) Rodrigues of Hilo; daughters, Tiani Rodrigues and Maya Gonsalves both of Hilo; parents, Richard and Sarah Flores of Hilo; brothers, Puna DeMello of Hilo, Keola (Koko) DeMello of Mountain View, and Kai-Mana (Evi) Flores of Volcano; and one granddaughter.

Sandy Jean Linter

Sandy Jean Linter, 83, of Pahoa died June 18, 2020 at Life Care Center in Hilo. Born in Texas in 1937, she was a peer counselor for the MS Society after she retired from the Pepperdine University Law Library.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by daughter, Vicki Linter of Pahoa; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

Alice Gray

Alice Lihau Hao Gray, 70, died June 22, 2020 at her home in Glenwood, HI. Born in Kailua-Kona, she worked at the former Uncle Billy’s Hilo and Kona Bay Hotels and retired from C.W. Maintenance Co.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin Ellis Gray of Glenwood; step-son Brad (Tracy) Gray of Arizona; sisters, Laverne Bolosan of Honolulu, Brenda-Lee Dorsey of Florida, and Rana Hopfe of Hilo; two grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John Mair

John “Jock” William Mair, 68, of Holualoa, died June 8, 2020, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born July 27, 1951 in Ewa Plantation, Oahu, he was a cement finisher for Isemoto Contracting, Hawaiian Dredging Construction and Reef Development, and a member of Cement Finishers Local 630.

Service to be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Gail Mair of Holualoa; daughters, Stacey Fujisaka of Hawaii, Molly Mair of Oregon; brother, Donald (Joan) Mair of Kaaawa; sister, Margaret Moses of California; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
