West Hawaii’s three national parks have increased access on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as the parks implement phased reopenings amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park and Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site each have increased access on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Puuhonua o Honaunau NHP has increased access to the entrance stations and visitor center parking lots, as well as some visitor services. Some areas still remain closed, however.
Kaloko-Honokohau NHP has increased access to the Kaloko pond access road, visitor center parking lot, visitor center and restroom facilities, and visitor services. Again, some areas remain closed.
Pu’ukohola Heiau NHS has reopened its covered, open air lanai area at the visitor center daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The indoor museum and store area remains closed.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park last month resumed collecting entrance fees and allow public access to more areas of the park as part of its phased reopening.
The national parks closed in March to limit the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
