Kona Elks Club offers dinner

Dinner with Muriel at the Kona Elks will take place from 5-7 p.m. this evening at the Kona Elks Club in Kailua-Kona. The meal features chicken artichoke with rice for $10. Meals can be eaten at the facility or taken out.

To reserve a meal, call 329-2616. All members and guests are welcome.

‘Cook Your Own Meal’ bundle pickup announced

Laiopua 2020 will distribute its “Cook Your Own Meal” bundles on Thursday in Kailua-Kona.

Each “Cook Your Own Meal” bundle includes a recipe and the protein/produce/groceries to prepare the meal. The ingredients are enough to feed a family of six to eight. This week’s meal is SFE (Simple, fast, easy) enchilada casserole.

Distribution will take place at 5 p.m. at Laiopua 2020’s center, 74-5210 Keanalehu Drive in Kailua-Kona. Recipients are asked to drive through the parking lot to receive the bundle or bag. One bundle per vehicle.

Presentation on little fire ants coming up

The Kona Coffee Farmers Association will host a presentation on the invasive little fire ant at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Little fire ants (LFA) are listed as one of the world’s top 100 most invasive species. They are a pest to residents and industry alike, with a fiery sting that is changing our way of life. The presenation, which will be held virtually via Zoom, is geared toward those in the coffee industry and will be put on by the Hawaii Ant Lab. Topics that will be covered are biology, prevention, early detection, and treatment.

VFW announces Friday meal

The VFW Kona Post, located behind Kona Locksmith on Kaiwi Street, will host its Friday meal from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal includes chili and rice with toppings, corn bread, salad and watermelon dessert for $10.

Pre-orders can be made by calling 938-8815. Checks are acceptable. Masks are required for entrance as there will be inside seating per state guidelines. All veterans, their family, guests and the public are welcome and encouraged to support this only income source for the VFW.

The VFW Auxiliary will conduct its regular monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
