UPDATE: The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said at 9:33 p.m. Tuesday that there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii following a magnitude-7.8 earthquake off the coast of Alaska.
Original post: The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said at 9 p.m. Tuesday it is too early to determine if there is a possible tsunami threat to Hawaii following a magnitude-7.8 earthquake off the coast of Alaska.
The tsunami occurred at 8:13 p.m. approximately 75 miles south of Chignik, Alaska, according to the center. Tsunami warnings and advisories are in effect for coastal areas of Alaska.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in a statement issued at 9:01 p.m. Tuesday said it was “too early to determine whether there is a possible tsunami threat to Hawaii.”
If there is a tsunami threat, the center estimated arrival around 12:48 p.m. Wednesday.
