In anticipation of Hurricane Douglas making its arrival in Hawaii this weekend, the County of Hawaii Department of Public Works is closing Waipio Valley to the public from 7 a.m. Saturday until further notice.

Special duty officers and Waipio Valley Rangers will be on site at the top of the road leading into the valley to ensure valley access is restricted to local traffic only (residents, landowners and farmers).

Local traffic will be allowed to pass through, one vehicle at a time.
