Gold Star business nominations sought
The County of Hawaii invites the public to submit “Gold Star” nominations of local businesses that are implementing measures to ensure the safety of customers and employees amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Gold Star” businesses must implement the Hawaii County COVID-19 Task Force “Gold Star “safety measures in order to receive the Gold Star designation.

DTRIC, agency partners donate more than $40,000 to food banks
DTRIC Insurance, its employees, and its agency partners donated a total of $40,584 to food banks across the state to help feed Hawaii’s families in need.
“As an essential business, the DTRIC team and our agency partners have been able to continue working, while not all companies were this fortunate,” said Michele Saito, president and chief executive officer of DTRIC Insurance. “We are proud to support the vital work of the food banks across the state to help keep Hawaii’s families from going hungry.”
DTRIC and its employees challenged their agency partners to raise funds for the Hawaii Foodbank, Maui Food Bank, Hawaii Food Basket on Hawaii Island, and Hawaii Foodbank Kauai through a virtual food drive. The insurance company committed to matching agents’ donations dollar for dollar up to $25,000 statewide.
The Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank, received $3,768, Maui Food Bank received $3,516, Hawaii Foodbank Oahu received $30,146 and Hawaii Foodbank Kauai received $3,154.
Hawaiian Telcom earns Blue Zones Worksite Certification
Hawaiian Telcom recently earned the distinction as the only technology company in the nation to become a Blue Zones Project Certified Worksite. The Blue Zones Project is a community-wide well-being improvement initiative that helps make healthy choices easier for everyone in Hawaii.
Blue Zones Project, brought to Hawaii by Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA), is based on the best practices of blue zones, which are regions where people live the longest and are the healthiest. Blue zones regions include Okinawa, Japan; Ikaria, Greece; Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica; Sardinia, Italy and Loma Linda, California.
“A healthy workforce supports a healthier community and a healthier Hawaii,” said Su Shin, president and general manager of Hawaiian Telcom. “Our employees are our most important assets, and it’s even more important now during this COVID-19 pandemic for us to support their health and well-being as part of our commitment to them and to Hawaii.”
