No walk-up windows having negative impact

McDonald’s is doing its part in contributing to rising seas, more costly and destructive hurricanes, warming oceans and coral reef die-off. The only access to McDonald’s food, in Hilo, is by vehicle. No dine-in, no walk-ups. That policy encourages driving. Not being able to order from the drive-through eliminates walkers, cyclists, mothers with strollers and people walking their dogs. I thought about all the homeless/car-less who get shut out. As a seven-year, car-free bike rider, not only can’t I access McDonald’s, I cannot use the drive-up window at HFS credit union. Thanks to both institutions, we are converting our town into a less walkable, noisier, more polluted and less “green” area. As the song goes, “When will they ever learn?”

Zero votes for Trump

The U.S. president has said that mail-in balloting is so open to corruption or rigging that results from such a process cannot be trusted. I say to all you Trumpers out there, “Let’s take him at his word!”

It is obvious that the November presidential election will involve more mail-in ballots than ever before because of fears of the coronavirus. Isn’t it time for all Trumpers to stand with the president? If America insists on counting the mail-in ballots for the 2020 election, stand against this heinous corruption by refusing to participate in such a rigged election. If you truly support Trump, don’t dignify such a scandalous election process by participating in it. Stay home on Election Day. Just refuse to vote. Do it for Trump.

Remember, this is America. Nobody can make you vote here. In fact, most Americans don’t vote anyway so staying home on Election Day is actually very American. Show your contempt for this corrupt election process by ignoring it. Make the president proud. Just think what statement it would make if Trump gets zero votes. What a full-throated rejection of elections in general and this election in particular. It’s easy. It’s unique. It’s disruptive. Show your patriotism. Remember our goal — zero votes for Trump.

Time to jump off the train

We are all going through such trying times, facing a global pandemic, financial insecurity and racial injustice. It would be nice if we had a consistent message coming from the White House and the powers that be, but unfortunately that is not happening.

Thankfully, we do have a lot of smart, caring people who are doing the right thing to protect others and themselves by wearing a mask, social distancing, washing hands and not gathering in large groups for now. I have been around for a long time and never in my lifetime have I experienced such a display of ignorance and ineptitude in a president of the United States. It will be interesting to find out the reason why so many republicans in and out of the administration keep enabling a man who is clearly unfit to hold the office of president of the United States.

I am sure that I will be hearing from people who are still on the Trump Train but I think it’s time to jump off.
