Masatsu Kawamoto

Masatsu “Masa” Kawamoto, 98 of Hawi, died Aug. 1, 2020. Born July 10, 1922 in Kohala, he was a World War II veteran and member of the 442nd Infantry Regiment, Company I, earning a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Private services.

He is survived by spouse, Eunice; son, Maverick (Eunice) Kawamoto, of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Janette (Timothy) Snelling, of Hawi; four grandchildren; sister-in-law Margaret Kawamoto of Waimea; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Miyoko Hoshide

Miyoko Murakami Hoshide, 100, of Hilo, died June 29, 2020 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born June 11, 1920, in Hilo, she was a retired secretary for the former W.A. Hirai &Associates, actively involved in various community organizations and member of Hilo Meishoin.

Private services held. Family requests donations in her memory can be made to Hilo Meishoin, 97 Olona St., Hilo, HI 96720 or Hawaii Island Adult Care (HIAC), 561 Kupuna Pl., Hilo, HI 96720.

She is survived by son, Leslie (Donna) Hoshide of Honolulu; daughters, Aileen (Hajime) Shinjo of Hilo, Janice (Don) Jensen of Everett, Wash., Aimee (Ryan) Kaneko of Hilo; sister, Haruye Hagiwara of Honolulu; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank De Luz III

Frank Adam De Luz III, 86, of Hilo died July 26, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Paauilo, he was a real estate investor, rancher, former county council member, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, Young Men’s Institute and Court Mauna Kea #8854 of the Ancient Order of Foresters.

Private services held. No monetary donations requested.

He is survived by companion, Deborah Patnaude of Hilo; daughters, Brenda De Luz-Campbell of Paauilo and Carolyn Asencion of Hilo; sister, Gladys (Bruce) Mello of Kailua, Oahu; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

Helen Wood

Helen “Aji” Moana Wood, 77, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 1, 2020, at her residence. Born March 24, 1943 in Honolulu, she was a retired computer programmer and trainer, and former member and paddler for Kai Opua Canoe Club.

Private service to be held.

She is survived by siblings, Elva Mae Marr of Alaska, August Lincoln of California, Meredith Marquez of Hawi, and Abraham (Pamela) Lincoln of Guam; numerous nieces and nephews.
