Produce, ‘Cook Your Own Meal’ bundle pickups announced

Laiopua 2020 will distribute produce bags today and its “Cook Your Own Meal” bundles on Thursday in Kailua-Kona.

Produce bags supplement families’ meals and provide needed fresh fruits and vegetables.

Each “Cook Your Own Meal” bundle includes a recipe and the protein/produce/groceries to prepare the meal. The ingredients are enough to feed a family of six to eight. This week’s meal is spaghetti with meat sauce and fresh bread.

Distribution will take place at 5 p.m. both days at Laiopua 2020’s center, 74-5210 Keanalehu Drive in Kailua-Kona. Recipients are asked to drive through the parking lot to receive the bundle or bag. One bundle or bag per vehicle.

Coffee for Veterans is Wednesday

The weekly free Coffee for Veterans will be held this Wednesday. All veterans are invited to come “talk story” with their fellow veterans at Umekes Fish Market Bar and Grill at the corner of Kaiwi Street and Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona.

Coffee for Veterans gets underway a 9 a.m. Breakfast will be available for $7 per person. Face masks are required.

American Legion announces monthly meeting

The American Legion Kona Post 20 monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday at Umekes Fish Market Bar and Grill in Kailua-Kona.

The Post Officers’ meeting starts at 3:30 p.m. and general membership meeting follows at 4 p.m. Face masks are required and social distancing will be observed.

Kona Elks Club announces activities

Dinner with Muriel at the Kona Elks will take place from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kona Elks Club in Kailua-Kona. The meal features chicken curry for $10. Meals can be eaten at the facility or taken out.

On Friday, the club offers a choice of steak, fish or shrimp at 6 p.m. for $15 to $18.

On Saturday, will be the BBQ cook off at Kona Elks Club at 5 p.m. The $12 meal includes BBQ, corn and dessert. Those who bring their best BBQ to feed six people get their meal free.

On Sunday, the club hosts a veteran fundraiser dinner featuring chicken enchilada casserole from 5 to 7 p.m. for $12. All proceeds go to support veteran’s needs.
