Raymond Bumatay

Raymond Kama Bumatay, 80, of Hilo, died on July 31, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Ola’a, he was a retired Department of Education teacher, a Waikiki Beach Boy, founder and coach of the Paddlers of Laka and former canoe paddling coach at Kamehameha Schools.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by wife, Janice Bumatay of Hilo; sons, Douglas (Aldina) Bumatay and Alexander (Alice Ching) Bumatay of Hilo; daughter, Lorelei (Shane) Kalaniopio of Hilo; brothers, William Hopeau of Hilo, Wayne Awai of Waikoloa, Charleston Awai and Collins Awai of Portland, OR; sister, Jennie Silva of Hilo; four grandsons and one granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Darren Alivado

Darren Reuben Alivado, 52, of Keaau died Aug. 4, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a roofer for Kohala Roofing and an avid diver and hunter.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by father, Harry (Josephine) Cabiles of Hilo; sister, Christine Cavillis of Hilo; brother, Derek Cavillis of Kona; step-brothers, Grayson Mira and Bryan Mira of Hilo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

James Kin In

James “Kimo” Keola Kin In, 61, of Waikoloa, died June 28, 2020 in Waimea. Born Jan. 2, 1959, in Honolulu, he worked as a commercial truck driver.

He is survived by spouse, Kalei; daughter, Kanani Kin In-Kauhane of Honolulu; sons, Keola (Dawn) Kin In of Kailua-Kona and Keanu Kin In and Kau’nui Kin In, both of Waikoloa; sisters Cindy (Keone) Ancheta of Las Vegas and Katie Kin In of and Renee Akiu of, both of Mililani; and six grandchildren.

Charles Paxton

Charles “Chuck” Paxton, 76, of Paradise Park, died Aug. 7, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in West Virginia, he was retired from American Greetings and was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran.

No services. The family requests that any contributions in his memory should go toward cancer research.

He is survived by son, Martin Paxton of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister Peggy Golden of Paradise Park; and nieces and nephews. Any donations should go to cancer research.

Robert Brown

Robert “Bob” Douglas Brown, 77, of Captain Cook, died Aug. 5, 2020, at his residence. Born Feb. 19, 1943, in Dunsmuir, California, he was a retired vice president and software developer for Bancware Inc.

Private service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of Kona, PO Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.

He is survived by wife, Carol Brown of Captain Cook; daughter, Lisa Rhein; son, Karl (Sophi) Chan-Brown, all of Washington; sister, Lynn Martin of Idaho; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Clarence Ako Sr.

Clarence Ako Sr., 78, of Kapaau, died Aug. 10, 2020, at his residence. Born in Kealakekua, he was a retired maintenance worker in the engineering department at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, cane truck driver for the former Kohala Sugar CO. and formerly employed by Volcanite in Kona.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Patricia Ako of Kapaau; son, Clarence (Leigh Ann) Ako Jr. of Mililani, Oahu; daughters, Korina Malia (Eugenio) Dela Cruz of Kapaau and Roen (Felicia) Ako of Seattle; half-brothers, Patrick Camvel of Honolulu, Richard Camvel of Pennsylvania, Calvin (Aleshia) Camvel of Oregon; half-sisters, Leatrice (David) Pili of Kaneohe, Oahu, Charlene (Patrick) Porter of California, and Maxine (Leon) Ryines of San Diego; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Victor Nakatsu

Victor Samuel Nakatsu, 70, of Keaau, died Aug. 1, 2020, at home. He was born in Bellevue, Washington and was a salesman with Orchid Isle Auto Center.

He is survived by wife, Marcia Nakatsu of Keaau; sons, Owen (Bonnie) Okamoto of Kailua-Kona and Samuel (Tasha) Nakatsu of Keaau; daughters, Aja (Chase) Morishita, Noel (“O.J.”) Nakatsu of Keaau and Laurie (Matt) Aliabadi of Washington; 15 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph Lally Jr.

Joseph Thomas Lally Jr., 85, of Papaikou, died July 26, 2020 at home. Born April 27, 1935, in Ossining, New York, he was a retired electrician, U.S. Air Force veteran, and member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou.

He is survived by son, Joseph (Colynn) Lally III of Honokaa; daughters, Boni (Eric) Tom of Menlo Park, CA, Tracey (Steven) Bielenda of Wethersfield, CT and Patricia (Clayt) Ohta of Waimea; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Rachael Maebo

Rachael Kimiko Maebo, 82, of Hilo, died Aug. 10, 2020 at home. Born in Kona, she was the co-owner and vice president of Maebo Noodle Factory Inc. and was a member of the Waiakea congregation of Jehovah’s Witness in Hilo.

No services. The family requests no koden (monetary contributions).

She is survived by son, Blane (Lehua) Maebo; daughter, Maxine Maebo; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
