State health officials on Wednesday reported 277 new cases of COVID-19, including 23 new cases on Hawaii Island.
Of Tuesday’s new cases, 245 were on Oahu, 23 were on Hawaii Island and eight were on Maui, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center. One resident was diagnosed while out of the state.
The Department of Health also reported two new coronavirus-related deaths. Both were Oahu men who were in the hospital and had underlying health conditions. One was between the ages of 50 and 59 and the other was between the ages of 60 and 69.
The new cases announced Wednesday bring the state’s total case count to 7,260 since Feb. 28. Some 4,972 of those cases are still considered active, including 93 of the known cases on the Big Island.
To date, Oahu has recorded the majority of the state’s positive cases at 6,626 cases. Maui County has recorded 311 cases, Hawaii County 243 and Kauai County 56. Twenty-four residents have tested positive while out of the state.
Statewide, 444 or 6% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 11 on Hawaii Island, according to the center. Hawaii County Civil Defense said 13 were admitted as of Wednesday morning.
Of the 51 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 41 were on Oahu, seven were on Maui and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
