State health officials on Friday reported 265 new cases of COVID-19, bringing Hawaii’s total case count to 7,830.
Of Friday’s new cases, 233 were on Oahu, 26 were on Hawaii Island and six were on Maui, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center.
Of the 7,830 known cases since Feb. 28, some 5,420 of those cases are still considered active. That includes 117 of the known cases on the Big Island.
To date, Oahu has recorded the majority of the state’s positive cases at 7,147 cases. Maui County has recorded 324 cases, Hawaii County 279 and Kauai County 56. Twenty-four residents have tested positive while out of the state.
Statewide, 485 or 6% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 13 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update. Hawaii County Civil Defense said 15 were admitted as of Friday morning.
The center also announced Friday four new coronavirus-related deaths bringing the state’s death toll to 59. Three of the fatalities were on Oahu while the fourth was on Maui.
Two of the Oahu deaths were among men with underlying medical conditions who were hospitalized. One was between the ages of 70 and 79 years while the other was older than 80. The other Oahu death was of woman between the ages of 70 and 79 who had been hospitalized with underlying conditions. The fourth death was of a woman on Maui who was older than 80 and had been hospitalized and with underlying health conditions.
Of the 59 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 50 were on Oahu, eight were on Maui and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
