Stan Chraminski featured at Blue Seas Artisans Gallery
The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of September is oil painter Stan Chraminski (pictured at left.)
Chraminski moved to the Big Island five years ago and has been painting with the West Hawaii Plein Air painters ever since. His specialty is local scenes that show the sense of place for various beaches along north and south Kona. Skies, ocean, beaches, and palm trees are the main ingredients, often including people out enjoying the local weather.
Chraminski has studied art all his life. He had his beginning at Arts High School in Newark, New Jersey, and continuing with art history and studio courses in college. While living in Seattle, he attended numerous courses, workshops, and critique groups to improve his work. Chraminski had his work included in many exhibitions, including at Wailoa Center in Hilo annually in plein air and abstract shows.
Meet Chraminski and talk story at the gallery every Tuesday in September. The gallery, located in the Keauhou Shopping Center, is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Kona Choral Society announces virtual open house
The Kona Choral Society welcomes all singers to its virtual open house at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday via Zoom.
The open house will be followed by fall rehearsals held on Wednesday evenings, also via Zoom. The group will be exploring Dan Forrest’s “Jubilate Deo,” which is based on Psalm 100 and includes seven movements in six languages. It will also be rehearsing movements from Handel’s “Messiah” along with pieces from our Hawaiian GoTo Songbook, including “Na Ke Akua Oe E Kiai,” “Hawaii Aloha,” and “Ke Aloha o ka Haku.”

KVA featuring Thomas Carey during September
The Kailua Village Artists Gallery’s featured artist for the month of September is award-winning photographer and wood turner Thomas Carey.
Carey became interested in photography while he was in junior high school in Southern California, just taking pictures of his friends surfing and skateboarding. As an adult, he honed his skills in waters off the Channel Islands.
After retiring and moving from California to Hawaii in 2004, Carey had more time to follow his passion, which is traveling the world to do marine photography. His interests in photography are underwater, marine topside, travel, landscapes, and portraits. His photographs have been featured in publications such as: Skin Diver Magazine, Sportfishing Magazine, Nat Geo Explorer, and California Fish and Game Magazine.
While not diving, Carey enjoys making bowls, vases, and all shapes of wood. He specializes in Hawaiian woods, including koa, mango, Norfolk pine, milo and monkeypod.
Carey will be working at the gallery on Tuesday, as well as Sept. 17 and 25. The gallery is located in the Kona Marketplace, 72-5729 Alii Drive, Suite C-110 in Kailua-Kona. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
