Oliver Sekimura

Oliver Kazuyoshi Sekimura, 97, of Hilo, died Aug. 22, 2020 at a care home. Born in Hilo, he was retired from Isemoto Contracting Co. Ltd., a U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Hilo Meishoin.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers.

He is survived by daughters, Coreen (Randy) Ishimaru and Gayle (Michael) Sasaki of Hilo; granddaughters, Kara (Ivan) Iopa and Tania Takashiba of Hilo; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Darrell Malakaua

Darrell “Mala” Malakaua, 63, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 26, 2020, at his residence. Born Dec. 9, 1956 in Hilo, he was a security guard for Kona Seaside Hotel and Kona Bowl, a former truck driver for Better Brands, Paradise Beverages, Roberts Hawaii and Slim Holt Hawaii, a CNA for Full Life and Care Resources, scoutmaster for Aloha Council Boy Scouts of America LDS Troop 131, and member of Hawaii Teamsters Union Local 996 and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Jurene Manuia-Malakaua of Kailua-Kona; children, Ryan (Joni) Yuen of Waimea, Kanani (Shaun) Rhea of Alaska, Kanani (Alex Blanco) Malakaua of Waimea, Lopaka (Marie) Pavitt of Florida, Aikane (Jasmyn) Manuia, Bula Malakaua, Ui (Rusty Oppenheimer) Malakaua, Hiilani Malakaua, Kamai Malakaua all of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Carolyn (Norbert) Pfahler of Kauai, Trudy (Robert) Yamada, Jamie (Gabriel DeSilva) Malakaua; brother, Randall (Debbie Yoshizumi) Malakaua all of Hilo; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dianna Ching

Dianna Rhoda Ching, 77, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 26, 2020 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 23, 1942, in Honolulu, she was a housewife, room maid at the King Kamehameha Hotel, sales clerk at the former Payless Store, and member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Ke Ola Pono No Na Kupuna.

Norma Mullikin

Norma Jeanne Mullikin, 96, of Pahoa died July 24, 2020, at home. She was born in Kansas City, Mo. and was a retired special education teacher.

She is survived by daughter, Dottie (Ed Wollen) Mullikin of Pahoa; sons, Don (Judy) Mullikin and Tim (Mary Donlon) Mullikin of Homer, Alaska; hanai children, Carol and Tommy Burton of Springfield, Mo. and Janice Faucett of West Plains, Mo.; caregiver, LuzNudelman of Hawaiian Acres; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Arthur Brusco Sr.

Arthur Ellis Kalanikiekie Brusco Sr., 76, of Kailua-Kona died May 14, 2020. Born June 16, 1943 in Pearl City, Oahu, he was a retired trucking business owner, member of Puka da Sky Golf Club, and past president of Hui Ilima Of Santa Clara County.

He is survived by wife, Phoebe Brusco; son, Arthur (Susan) Brusco Jr. of Kea’au; daughter, Heather (Morris) Brusco of Kailua-Kona; and a grandson.

Jacqueline Leslie Becker, 64, of Honokaa, died on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020 at home. She was born on September 30, 1955 in Kenya. She was an Equine Therapist / Owner of International Pony Rubs. No services. Survived by, husband, Thomas Peterson of Honokaa; father, Brian Clay of Australia; brother, Trevor Clay of Australia.

Yong Sun Hong

Yong Sun Hong, 84, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 30, 2020 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 24, 1935, in Seoul, Korea, she was a self-employed seamstress and member of the Kona Korean Missions Church.

She is survived by sons, Chan Hong of Kailua-Kona and Yong (Cherry Park) Hong of Pennsylvania; daughter, Misuk (Jung Ho) of Korea; brother, Kyu Tak (Jun Ye) Chae of New York; four grandchildren.

Gary Haruo Jenkins, 64, of Holualoa, died July 17, 2020. Born in Kealakekua, he was a handler for Aloha Air Cargo.

Virgelio “Bones,” Pasalo Licoan, 63, of Kukui Village Camp, Ookala, died Aug. 12, 2020 at Queen’s Medical Center Oahu. Born in Hilo.

Alexander Ako

Alexander Chun Ako, Jr., 86, of Kealakekua, Hawaii, died Aug. 22, 2020, at his residence. Born in Honolulu on March 29, 1934, he was a truck driver for Kona Transportation Company; and also P.K. Onaga Trucking, and Richard Lee Trucking Co. He was a manager at Midas Mufflers, a member of Lanakila Congregational Church, a gardener, and koa wood worker.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by his wife, Abbie Ako of Kealakekua; sons, Daniel (Leslie) Ako of Kealakekua, Alexander (Candice) Ako, III of Redwood City, CA, Eric Ako of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Lisa (Ronnie) Aukai of Kailua-Kona; brother, Harold (Eleanor) Ako of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a nephew and numerous cousins.
