Kona Commons on Wednesday announced Island Naturals Market and Deli will be the newest tenant in the shopping center on Makala Boulevard.

“We love the Kailua-Kona area and are excited to relocate to Kona Commons,” said Russell Ruderman, founder and president of Island Naturals. “We’ve been warmly welcomed by the Kona community and we are so grateful for this. Our new home at Kona Commons will feature the same quality organic and local foods along with an expanded deli and bakery, more fresh foods, and an accessible and convenient location.”

The new store will feature an expanded prepared-foods area with plenty of shaded outdoor seating and ample parking. It is anticipated to open in summer 2021 and be open every day.

Kona Commons is home to 20 national and local shops and restaurants that range from daily services to sidewalk cafes and fashion boutiques. The new addition of Island Naturals brings yet another retail option to the shopping destination.

The store will offer organic produce, groceries, refrigerated and frozen items, beer, wine, meat, fish, and bulk products in addition to an organic bakery.

“Island Naturals’ reputation and insistence of quality is an attribute that we have in common at Kona Commons” said Todd Hedrick, vice president of leasing and property management for MacNaughton. “Providing Kona residents and guests with highly-desired retailers, an exceptional shopping and dining environment and convenience is something we strive to uphold and in turn, delivers quality for our customers and merchants.”

Island Naturals is the largest group of natural and organic food stores on the Big Island, with locations in Hilo, Pahoa and Kailua-Kona. Island Naturals was started by Russell Ruderman over two decades ago. The group’s first store opened in 1998 in Hilo. A Hawaii resident for over 35 years, Russell has been steeped in the health food and organic industry since 1975.
