Carmen Valera

Carmen M. Valera, 86, of Paauilo, died Aug. 10, 2020 at her residence. Born May 12, 1934, in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for Mass. Burial to follow at Honokaa Catholic Church Cemetery.

She is survived by spouse, William Valera of Paauilo, three step-sons; one step-daughter; brothers, Alfredo (Teresita) Gacula Jr. of Honokaa and Jesse (Helen) Gacula of Keaau; sisters, Rosita (Bernardo) Flores of Philippines, Pilarina Passion, Cionit (Ramon) Salazar, Imelda (Marlowe) Arreola of Honolulu, Erlinda (Roberto) Fernandez of Los Angeles and Marilyn (Renato) Isidro of San Diego; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; numerous hanai children.

Steven Wesolowski

Steven Michael Wesolowski, 61, of Pahoa, died June 13, 2020 at Pohai Malama in Hilo. Born in October 1958 in Pennsylvania, he was a Knight of Colombus of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a B1 general contractor and CEO of Southwest Costume Concepts LLC.

He is survived by daughter, Ashley Wesolowski; son, Steven Wesolowski; brother, Frank Ryan; and sister, Eleanor Geneeha.

Sonny Kamanawa

Sonny Kaopua Kamanawa, 40, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 1, 2020, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 29, 1980, in Kealakekua, he was a former customer service agent for Alamo Car Rentals, prep cook for Quinn’s, service agent for Fun Factory and member of Pukaana Congregational Church.

Nancy Urbanozo

Nancy M. Urbanozo, 77, of Laupahoehoe, died Aug. 13, 2020 at Life Care Center Hilo. Born in North Hilo, she was worker for Hamakua Plantation Co., a health caretaker, and member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Laupahoehoe Senior Citizen Club, Papaaloa Nutrition and RSVP.

Nancy is survived by brother Kenneth (Wendy) Urbanozo Sr. of Ookala; sister Anita Urbanozo-DeMotta, of Kapehu Camp; aunt, uncle, and numerous nephews, nieces, great grand nephews and nieces, and cousins.

Eleanore Phelps

Eleanore Phelps, 82, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 5, 2020, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Feb, 7, 1938 in Los Angeles, she was a homemaker, a former medical assistant and dental assistant, member of the Audubon Society.

Private service to be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Audubon Society.

She is survived by husband, William Phelps of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Lisa (Trent) Bateman; grandchildren, Bryce (Patty) Bateman all of Holualoa, Brooke (Grant) Decker of Kailua-Kona, Graysen Gaine of Honolulu; three great-grandchildren.

Esther Gorman

Esther Rosanne Gorman, 69, of Waikoloa, died Sept. 5, 2020 in Waimea. Born July 16, 1951, in Los Angeles, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by spouse, Bruce; son, Bob (Elizabeth) Gorman of Newbury Park, California; four grandchildren.
