State health officials reported 80 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, including seven new cases on Hawaii Island.
With the new cases, the statewide tally increased to 10,779 while Hawaii Island’s total case count reached 594, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center.
Oahu reported 70 new cases, bringing the state’s most populous island’s case count to 9,723 and Maui County reported three new cases, including two on Molokai, increasing the county’s total to 378. Kauai County’s tally held steady at 58 as did the number of resident who have tested positive while out of the state at 26.
Of the known cases in Hawaii to date, some 7,086 of those cases are still considered active. That includes 274 of the known cases on Hawaii Island.
Statewide, 638 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 24 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
Of the 99 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 86 were on Oahu, nine were on Maui, three were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
“However, a total of 25 deaths associated with a positive coronavirus result are still pending receipt of records, and ten (10) of these deaths are pending a final Medical Examiner report,” the center said Monday afternoon.
The state said late last week it has yet to include the last nine Hawaii Island deaths reported by Yukio Okutsu Veterans State Home’s Avalon Healthcare, as it is awaiting medical records from the facility. The facility reported two new deaths on Sunday bringing the total number of deaths associated with the home to 12.
As of Sunday, 66 residents and 28 employees had tested positive for COVID-19. Four residents were hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center while 33 others were being cared for at the home’s COVID-19 designated area. A total of 17 residents and five employees have recovered.
