Dolores Laverne Mattos, 79, of Hilo died Sept. 8, 2020, at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was a retired custodian at Hilo Intermediate School and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Friends may call at 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 2 p.m. service. Burial to follow at the Alae Cemetery. Causal attire.

Alvin Cabral
Alvin “Al” Paul Cabral, 73, of Hilo, died on Sept. 8, 2020 at his residence. Born June 15, 1947, in Olaa, he was retired from the Hawaii National Guard, Day-Lum Rentals &Management and Hawaii Electric Light Co. as an electrical inspector.
Al was a Director of the Panaewa Stampede Rodeo, President of Hawaii Horse Owners, and a member of Kau Roping &Riding Club and St. Joseph School Class of 1965 Breakfast Club. He was honored as the Grand Marshal and Pau Marshal of the Merrie Monarch Parade.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Feb. 14, 2021, at the Panaewa Stampede Rodeo for services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hawaii Horse Owners Inc. and Friends of Panaewa Zoo.
He is survived by wife, Nancy Cabral of Hilo; sons, Todd (Randi) Cabral of Kapolei, Oahu, Jeff (Lacey) Cabral of Hilo, J.C. (Whitney) Cabral of Grass Valley, Oregon, and Cody Cabral of San Tan Valley, Arizona; sister, Joyce (Dennis) Wong of Mountain View; five grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Liselotte Castaneda
Liselotte Kamahele Castaneda, 56, of Honokaa, died Sept. 1, 2020 at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 12, 1965, in Germany, she was a security officer.

Wayne De Motta
Wayne Gilbert De Motta, 65, of Hilo, died Sept. 7, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hawaii County paramedic who formerly worked at Hilo Coast Processing Co., member of the Keaukaha Canoe Club, Hawaii Firefighters Association, Black Belt from Honomu Judo Club, a fisherman and a hunter.

Russell Keoki Mahi, 67, of Waimea, died Sept. 8, 2020 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was a self-employed mason.

Masaye Kuwahara, 99, of Hilo, died Aug. 18, 2020 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Papaikou, she was retired from the former S.H. Kress store in Hilo.

Kiyoko Horimoto
Kiyoko Horimoto, 100, of Papaikou, died Sept. 6, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission, Papaikou Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association and the former Tenrikyo Mishima Hilo Church.

She is survived by daughters, Carolyn Imai and Susan Horimoto of Papaikou; son, Harold (Clara) Horimoto of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three nieces.

Benjamin Cristobal Beltran Jr., 80, of Keaau died Aug. 30, 2020, at his residence. Born in Dasmarinas, Cavite, Philippines, he was a retired project manager for Kajima USA, Inc. in Las Vegas and a field engineer and supervisor in Guam.

Roy Katsuto Iwasaki, 76, of Hilo, died Sept. 8, 2020, in Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired draftsman for the Hawaii County Department of Public Works, member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, associate member of the Hilo Hooganji Mission and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Michael “Mike” Makaokalani John Jr., 85, of Hilo, died Sept. 2, 2020 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born April 11, 1935 in Hilo, he was a former employee for Holmes &Narver, a former manager for the Kona Hukilau and Hilo Hukilau, U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keaukaha Ward.

Larry Sasaki
Larry Masayuki Sasaki, 95, of Captain Cook, died Aug. 7, 2020 at his residence. Born June 25, 1925, he was a retired maintenance worker at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, a member of Daifukuji Soto Mission and a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

Andrew Iaukea Bright III, of Waikoloa, died Sept. 12, 2020, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born June 30, 1952, he was a musician, entertainer and radio announcer and member of the Kamehameha School Alumni Class of 1970.
