Kona Elks Club announces activities

Dinner with Muriel at the Kona Elks is set 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kona Elks Club in Kailua-Kona. The meal features meatloaf for $10. Meals can be eaten at the facility or taken out.

On Saturday, the club will hold its Oktoberfest Celebration featuring a German dinner, music and dancing at 6 p.m. for $26

Shotwell named to Dean’s List

Waikoloa resident Jenna Shotwell was named to Biola University’s Dean’s List for academic excellence. Shotwell was one of approximately 1,500 students who were named to the Dean’s List in spring 2020. Students receive the honor for having a GPA of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credits with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.

Recreation area to close Oct. 6 for vector treatment

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will close the Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area (formerly the Mauna Kea Recreation Area) from 4:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 6 for vector control operations.

The county advises motorists heading over Daniel K. Inouye Highway that the closure includes the public restrooms and other amenities at the park.
