Free COVID-19 testing today, Saturday in Kona
Free COVID-19 drive-through testing will be held today in North Kona and Hilo.
Testing will be available from 9 a.m. to noon at the Keauhou Shopping Center and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hilo Civic Auditorium.
Testing is also planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the West Hawaii Civic Center.
No insurance is necessary to be tested, but those seeking testing should bring their insurance card if they have one. There is no co-pay for individuals being tested for the novel coronavirus.

Culinary arts program offers to-go menu
Hawaii Community College — Palamanui’s Culinary Arts Program students students have been developing their culinary skills this semester creating regional European and American Cuisines. In the bakeshop, the students are working on plated desserts for their prix fixe menu projects.
In an effort to deliver cafe service and provide students and guests a taste of the world, we will be offering a limited to-go, pick-up menu weekly. Service will be from noon to 1 p.m.
This Wednesday’s menu includes four meal choices:
• Hummus Vegetable Olive Wrap with Mustard Vinaigrette featuring Waimea lettuce, oven dried tomatoes, cucumber, feta cheese and grilled zucchini for $7;
• Lasagna featuring beef meat sauce, layered with housemade ricotta cheese, herb and mozzarella cheese served with garlic bread and side salad for $9.
• Palamanui Chili featuring Kulana ground beef, kidney and pinto beans, tomato and spices with rice, garnished with green onion, crispy tortilla chips and cheese for $7.
• Palamanui Baked Kalbi Chicken featuring marinated chicken thighs, baked and served with hapa rice and Asian cabbage slaw for $10.
Available from the bakery are eight chocolate chip cookies for $5. Water is available for $1.
Donations are welcome and benefit the Culinary Arts Programs by providing equipment, supplies and culinary education for the program. Checks should be made out to University of Hawaii Foundation, acct# 127-1260-2 ACF KKCA.
Speaker to discuss approaches for positive adoloscent behavior
The nonprofit Kuikahi Mediation Center hosts a free talk on Thursday as part of its “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series. Talks are Third Thursdays from 12 noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
This month’s speaker is Lorenn Walker on the topic “Effective Approaches for Positive Adolescent Behavior: Alternatives to Grouping ‘At-Risk Youth.’”
“Research confirms that most parents know: exposing a child with problem behaviors to others bad behaviors increases the likelihood of more bad behavior,” says Walker. “Despite the research on negative peer influence and labelling, problems grouping ‘at-risk youth’ are common.”
In this talk, learn how to apply restorative justice, solution-focused, cooperative, and peer-education approaches with youth.
Walker, JD, MPH, develops, implements, researches, and reports on cooperative learning interventions using public health approaches including restorative justice and solution-focused applications. She collaborates with schools, prisons, courts, law enforcement, NGOs, and individuals to address injustice. A Senior Fulbright Specialist, Walker directs Hawaii Friends of Restorative Justice and is a professor at the University of Hawaii Public Policy Center.
