Ohana Food Drops slated this week
The Food Basket will offer its Ohana Food Drops on Tuesday in Ka‘u, Wednesday in Hilo and Friday in Waikoloa.
The Ohana Food Drops — a drive-through operation in which participants remain in their cars and provide information to food bank staff and volunteers through signage and hand motions — replaces The Food Basket’s normal “high touch” distributions as an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Tuesday’s distribution will take place at Naalehu Hongwanji Temple in Naalehu, Wednesday’s distribution will take place at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, and Friday’s distribuition will occur at Kamakoa Nui Skate Park in Waikoloa. Supplies will be available on a first come, first serve basis starting at 10 a.m.
Remaining Ohana Food Drops for October are Oct. 22 at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium in Kailua-Kona; Oct. 23 at Pahoa Community Center in Pahoa; Oct. 28 at Cooper Center in Volcano; and Oct. 30 at Honokaa Sports Complex and Skate Park in Honokaa.
The Food Basket is not accepting food donations at this time, but monetary donations can be made online at www.hawaiifoodbasket.org.
Call for nominations for the UH Board of Regents
The Candidate Advisory Council of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents is now accepting applications for the Hawaii County seat on the Board of Regents. All seats are for five-year terms to begin July 1, 2021.
Application materials, procedures and descriptions of regent’s responsibilities are available online at http://www.hawaii.edu/rcac. Completed applications must be received by CAC, or postmarked, by Nov. 16.
Members of the UH Board of Regents as well as the CAC, who represent various constituent groups, serve voluntarily and are not paid.
