State health officials reported 18 new COVID-19 cases on Hawaii Island Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases to 992 since Feb. 28.
The new Hawaii Island cases were among 101 new positive results announced by the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center bringing the statewide tally to 13,674. Oahu reported 81 new cases while Maui reported one. One resident was also diagnosed outside the state.
As of noon Wednesday, 2,791 of those known cases were considered active, including 256 cases on Hawaii Island. An active case is defined as an individual who has tested positive for the coronavirus and is being monitored by the Department of Health.
According to the Department of Health, 176 cases have onset dates within 28 days in the Kailua-Kona area and 116 cases have onset dates within the past 28 days in the Hilo area.
Statewide, 961 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 52 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
The state reported 10 new coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday. Three were on Hawaii Island, two were on Oahu and five were on Maui.
Of the 183 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported to date among Hawaii residents to date, 146 were on Oahu, 18 were on Maui, 18 were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
Hawaii County Civil Defense reported no new coronavirus-related deaths Wednesday, leaving the death toll at 37. That figure includes 27 residents of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. The state has yet to confirm and report the last 19 deaths on the island.
