Ohana Food Drop coming to Waikoloa
The Food Basket will hold its Ohana Food Drop on Friday in Waikoloa.
Ohana Food Drops — a drive-through operation in which participants remain in their cars and provide information to food bank staff and volunteers through signage and hand motions — replace The Food Basket’s normal “high touch” distributions as an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Distribution will occur at Kamakoa Nui Skate Park in Waikoloa. Supplies will be available on a first come, first serve basis starting at 10 a.m.
Remaining Ohana Food Drops for October are Oct. 22 at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium in Kailua-Kona; Oct. 23 at Pahoa Community Center in Pahoa; Oct. 28 at Cooper Center in Volcano; and Oct. 30 at Honokaa Sports Complex and Skate Park in Honokaa.
The Food Basket is not accepting food donations at this time, however, monetary donations can be made online at www.hawaiifoodbasket.org.
Free COVID-19 testing slated for Puna, Ka‘u
Free drive-through COVID-19 testing will be offered Friday in Pahoa and Saturday in Ka‘u.
Testing will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Friday at Pahoa District Park and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Kahuku Park in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense.
No insurance is necessary to be tested, but those seeking testing should bring their insurance card if they have one. There is no co-pay for individuals being tested for the novel coronavirus.

Virtual college fair is Saturday
The Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling is hosting a free Virtual College Fair on from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The event will open with HACAC offering general information sessions on important topics such as: the changing landscape of college admissions; time lines for high school students; college essay writing and financial aid and scholarship access, including WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange) programs.
Between 1 and 4 p.m., 150 colleges and universities will be presenting information about their educational programs, residential life, and admissions process through live virtual webinar-style sessions. Each session will have six institutions present for six minutes, followed by Q&A after all the presentations.
