The University of the Nations Kona reported Monday evening no active cases of COVID-19 among the faith-based university’s staff and student body.

UofNK spokesperson Johnny Gillespie said all of the 52 people infected have been cleared by the Department of Health and released from isolation. None of the students or staff required hospitalization.

West Hawaii Today first reported the cluster of cases associated with the university when the campus confirmed nine COVID-19 cases on Oct. 1. Campus-wide testing was held Oct. 6 and 8 during which 955 staffers and students were tested for the novel coronavirus. Just nine of the people tested received positive results.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mayor Harry Kim, his administration, the Department of Health, and our UofN Kona medical staff for their hard work, swift action, and ongoing support throughout these recent weeks. It is due to their vigilance, diligence, and teamwork that we have come through this without additional cases or spreading the virus further,” the release from Gillespie states.
