Eight new Hawaii Island and 60 Oahu cases were among 77 positive results announced by the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center as of noon Thursday, bringing the statewide tally to 14,911 since Feb. 28. Of the remaining cases, three were on Lanai and one on Kauai. One previous case from Maui was removed and added to Lanai due to updated laboratory information.
As of noon Thursday, 3,229 of the 14,911 known cases were considered active, including 364 cases on Hawaii Island. An active case is defined as an individual who has tested positive for the coronavirus and is being monitored by the Department of Health.
Statewide, 1,090 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 65 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
Two deaths were reported Thursday. Two men, both with underlying conditions and both who had been hospitalized have died from coronavirus. Both men were Oahu residents. One man between 50-59 years old and the other was older than 80.
Of the 215 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported to date among Hawaii residents, 168 were on Oahu, 16 were on Maui, 30 were on Hawaii Island and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
The state has yet to confirm 10 of the 40 coronavirus-related deaths reported on Hawaii Island.
