A high surf advisory has been extended for east-facing shores of Hawaii Island through Friday afternoon.

Wave heights of 7 to 10 feet are expected for Hawaii Island’s northern, eastern and southern coasts through 6 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters classified the surf’s impact as “moderate,” cautioning ocean users to expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that can make swimming difficult and dangerous. Boaters should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.
