William Kapaku Sr.

William Lelenieha Kapaku Sr., 92, of Kailua-Kona and formerly of Nanakuli, Oahu, died Oct. 18, 2020, at his residence. Born Feb. 18, 1928, in Makawao, Maui, he was a retired tile setter and founding member of the IUBAC Local 1 Hawaii, a World War II and Korean War veteran and member of the VFW and Veterans of Hawaii (Old Soldiers).

Private services will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Virginia or Stacielee Kapaku at 74-517 Kaniohale Loop, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740.

He is survived by wife, Virginia Kapaku of Kailua-Kona; sons, William (Chongwa) Kapaku Jr. of Manase, Virginia, David (Kenda) Kapaku of Honokohau Valley, Maui, and Donald (Germaine) Kapaku of Nanakuli, Oahu; daughter, LindaJoyce Kapaku Fletcher and Stacielee (Paul) Kapaku-Souza, all of Kailua-Kona, Antoinette Kauilani (Alexander) Almeida of Kalapana, and Stephanie (Ken) Smith of Wailuku, Maui; 18 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gina Van Der Velden

Gina Bunthoun Van Der Velden, 47, of Keaau, died Oct. 14, 2020, at her residence, Born in Battambang, Cambodia, she was an entrepreneurial real estate agent, computer programmer and world traveler.

Private services held.

She is survived by numerous family members in Hawaii and abroad.

Sandra Kadota

Sandra Satsuye Kadota, 71, of Hilo, died on Oct. 12, 2020, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a housekeeper for ARC of Hilo and Rainbow Crafts and a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services held.

She is survived by first cousins, Roland (Fran) Kadota, Clara (Fred) Madariaga and Ann (Stephen Nemeth) Usagawa, all of Hilo, Clarice (Evan) Leung of Monterey Park, California, Barry (Sharon) Usagawa of Kaneohe, Oahu, and Judy (Michael) Lee, Lawrence (Dayle) Morita and Cary (Kazuko) Morita, all of Honolulu; numerous second cousins.

Robert Measel Jr.

Robert “Bob” C. Measel Jr., 75, of Hilo, died Oct. 25, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 9, 1945, in Danville, Kentucky, he was a U.S. Airforce Vietnam War veteran, surfboard builder, care salesman, Realtor for Stark Realty, founding partner of Measel Associates, CEO and president of E Pili Kaua Ventures Inc., entrepreneur with Diamond Cross Ministries, hotel developer with the Royal Development Corp., and member of the Waikiki Yacht Club, and assisted the Police Department with Bloodhound Search and Rescue.

Services will be postponed until 2021 and will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. Details will be shared via Facebook.

He is survived by daughter, Heather Measel Hinkle of Walnut Creek, California; son, Travis Measel Tachet of Poway, California; former wife, Antoinette Tachet of Temecula, California; and numerous relatives on the mainland.

Raymond Baldonado

Raymond Douglas Baldonado, 64, of Pahoa, died Nov. 3, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 6, 1956, in Pahala, he was a sales representative for Home Depot and U.S. Army veteran

Friends may call at 4 pm. Nov. 13 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Cremation to follow.

He is survived by spouse, Shirley-Ann Kawaihalau of Pahoa; children, Kara (Ricky) Magcalas of Honolulu, Raymond Kaimana Kawaihalau-Baldonado, Kameron Kawaihalau-Baldonado, Tasha (Bruce) Kawaihalau and Aleka (Saisyn) Rincon of Pahoa, Rico (Lisa) Rincon of Hilo, Della (Chris) Rincon of Viginia, Carlos Rincon of Volcano and Edward (Connie) Rincon of Arizona; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Vince Tolentino, Tony (Cita) Baldonado, Lawrence (Cheryl) Baldonado, Michael (Samantha) Baldonado and Rudy Baldonado; sisters, Lily (Orlando) Antolin, Clarita (Julian) Corpuz, Laverne (Fred) Howard and Clarita (Albert) Kamakura.

Larry Kadooka

Larry Susumu Kadooka, 91, of Hilo, died Oct. 31, 2020, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 29, 1929, in Keei, Kona, was a retired for photographer for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and founded the Hilo Film Club.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 15 at Dodo Mortuary for a drive-through visitation.

He is survived by wife, Myra Kadooka of Hilo; daughters, Susan (Owen) Muneno, Peggy Hilton and Wendy (Wayne) Goya, all of Hilo; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
