A time to move forward
Now that the elections are over and we the people (at least those of us who voted) have spoken, it is time for all of us to cast aside out differences and present a unified stand to make our already great country even better.
Assigning colors to states based on political affiliations goes quite a way back into our short history; however, it wasn’t until the 2000 U.S. presidential election that the news media referred to U.S. states whose voters predominantly choose either the Republican party (red) or Democratic party (blue) presidential candidates.
Since then, the use of the term has been expanded to differentiate between states being perceived as liberal and those perceived as conservative.
Personally, I think it is high time that we cast aside our political differences and start working as a cohesive unit for the betterment of our country. What is the name of this nation? Is it the red and blue states of America? I personally think not. It is the United States of America!
I’m ready to start walking in that direction, how about joining me?

Good luck with the DMV
In response to Dennis Lawson’s Nov. 6 letter to the editor about the DMV in Kona, I would like to let him know that I also wrote a not favorable editorial about them years ago. Ever since, when I need to renew my driver’s license I am being harassed about my citizenship or my immigration status, without any word of explanation of the problem. I usually have to engage outside help to receive my new license. No, not rational minds, I call it a power play by government employees. Good luck, Mr. Lawson.
