Hawaii Island police have charged a 31-year-old Mountain View woman with numerous offenses stemming from a traffic stop Wednesday in Puna.
Juanita Grammer was taken into custody Wednesday noon after trying to flee from Puna Patrol officers during a traffic stop in the Fern Acres subdivision, according to the Hawaii POlice Department. Officers had tried to stop her vehicle after observing in on Plumeria Street with illegally tinted windows and regulatory violations.
While fleeing from officers, Grammer’s vehicle lost control and slid off the roadway, coming to rest in dense vegetation, according to police. No other occupants were inside the vehicle.
Detectives subsequently served a search warrant on the vehicle and reportedly recovered a loaded pistol, ammunition, a glass smoking pipe with residue, syringes containing a brown liquid, which tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine, two silicone containers containing a brown residue, which tested presumptive positive for heroin, and zip packets containing residue, which tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine.
After conferring with prosecutors, detectives charged Grammer Thursday evening with two counts of ownership/possession prohibited, loaded firearm on highway, place to keep pistol, place to keep ammunition, alteration of identification marks prohibited, four counts third-degree promoting a dangerous drug, driving without license, no motor vehicle insurance and resist order to stop.
Bail was set at $145,000 pending an initial court appearance. She was reportedly on probation at the time of the incident.
