Hawaii Island’s COVID-19 case count increased by six Tuesday, bringing the number of cases on the island to 1,485 since Feb. 28.
The new Hawaii Island cases were among 53 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health Tuesday, bringing the total case tally to 16,665. Oahu reported 37 new cases while Maui reported. Eights residents also tested positive for the virus while outside the state.
Statewide, 83 people were hospitalized Monday, including nine on Hawaii Island.
No coronavirus-related deaths were reported or confirmed Monday by the state. Of the 222 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 173 were on Oahu, 17 were on Maui, one on Lanai, 31 were on Hawaii Island and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
Including a death Sunday at Kona Community Hospital, Hawaii County Civil Defense has now reported a total of 49 coronavirus-related fatalities on Hawaii Island. The state has yet to confirm 18 of the deaths reported to date on Hawaii Island. Twenty-seven of the deaths were among residents of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo and five were at Kona Community Hospital.
