Seven new cases of COVID-19 reported on Hawaii Island

Seven new cases of COVID-19 were reported Monday on Hawaii Island, bringing the island’s total case count to 1,647 as of Dec. 7.

The new Hawaii Island case was among 81 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health bringing the total case tally to 18,608 since Feb. 28. Oahu reported 58 new cases while Maui reported 12 and Kauai saw three new cases. The remaining three cases were among residents diagnosed outside the state.

Statewide, 57 people were hospitalized Sunday, including two on Hawaii Island. To date, 1,329 people have required hospitalization, including 80 on Hawaii Island.

Of the 262 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 199 were on Oahu, 17 were on Maui, 43 were on Hawaii Island and one on Kauai. Two deaths were among residents outside the state.

Hawaii County Civil Defense has reported a total of 49 coronavirus-related fatalities on Hawaii Island. The state has yet to confirm six of the deaths reported to date on Hawaii Island and has not responded to repeated requests for information on pending cases.
