Gifts sought for homeless keiki

Project Hawaii, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Hawaii’s homeless keiki, is accepting gift donations for 700 children on their Santa’s List.

Since Project Hawaii is unable to host their Big Island Holiday Christmas party this year, the organization will be doing a drive-through pick up for families who would have been at the party as well as conducting islandwide personal deliveries to those in outlying and isolated areas.

Donations will be accepted until Thursday.

County announces three transfer station closures

Closures are slated for three West Hawaii transfer stations this week, the Hawaii County Department of Environmental Management Solid Waste Division announced Monday.

The Waiea Transfer Station will be closed through Friday and the Keei Transfer Station will be closed Tuesday through Friday, the county said, but did not provide a reason for the closure or immediately respond to a request for additional information.

Residents will be able to dispose of their rubbish between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily at the Keauhou Transfer Station. Two-bin recycling services are available between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

In addition, greenwaste services will be closed for the Kealakehe Transfer Station on Wednesday.
