Hawaii Island’s COVID-19 case count increased by five Wednesday, bringing the island’s total case count to 1,748.
The new Hawaii Island cases were among 110 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health bringing the total case tally to 19,590 since Feb. 28. Oahu reported 85 new cases while Maui County reported 14. One resident was diagnosed outside the state.
Hawaii County has a 1.8% test positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 2.4%.
Statewide, 60 people were hospitalized Wednesday, including three on Hawaii Island. To date, 1,371 people have required hospitalization, including 82 on Hawaii Island.
Four new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Oahu by the state Wednesday.
Of the 278 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 215 were on Oahu, 17 were on Maui, 43 were on Hawaii Island and one on Kauai. Two deaths were among residents outside the state.
Hawaii County Civil Defense has reported a total of 49 coronavirus-related fatalities on Hawaii Island. The state has yet to confirm six of the deaths reported to date on Hawaii Island.
There have been no fatalities reported in the last four weeks, Hawaii County Civil Defense said Monday. The island’s COVID-19 fatality rate was 2.5% on Wednesday, above the statewide rate of 1.4%.
