Police are investigating a Friday morning shooting that left a man dead in the Puainako Town Center in Hilo.

According to the Hawaii Police Department, officers responding to a report of gunshots in the area shortly after 4 a.m. found an unresponsive man in a late-model, dark-colored Chevrolet sedan in the parking lot.

The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning to determine the exact cause of death.

No suspect is in custody. Detectives have, however, received video footage from businesses in the area for review. Additionally, a witness reported observing a light-colored sedan leaving the area soon after hearing the gunshots.
