Dozens and dozens of cars lined up at the surviving small business of Waimea Coffee Company to receive free meals and a whole lot of cheer ahead of Christmas. Organizers Victoria Scott and Tenny Lindsey-Velez of Waimea built this event off a random conversation that ended up with both saying, “I’m in! I’m in!”

With donations from 10 local farms, nonprofit organizations, and local farmer markets the ladies dished out more than 400 meals to residents in cars, pedestrians, and even remotely located kupuna who called in for a chance to taste the home-cooked entrees and goodies. In all, there were 16 turkeys totaling 150 pounds of meat, local greens, delicious deserts, and locally produced fruit.

“We knew that if we gave the community farms and businesses a chance to support this effort, they would not let us down, and you know what, they came through in spades,” remarked Scott and Lindsey-Velez.

Volunteers from the community managed the traffic, greeted guests and even donated special holiday greenery flower arrangements for families. Those who contributed include Double D Ranch, Mother Natures Miracle, Kulina Lani Scouts Doughbread, Sunrise Farms, Friends of the Future, Honopua Farms, Kekela Farms, Honaunau Market Olakino Farms, and Waimea Coffee and Kohala Coffee Company.
