Jean Lai

Jean Dorothy Senner Lai, 89 of Hilo, died Dec. 16, 2020, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Wisconsin, she was retired from the food service and hotel industry.

Services to be determined.

She is survived by daughters, Arleen (Robert) Eblacas of Nevada and Diane (Roger Jr.) Kanealii of Kawaihae; daughter-in-law, Jan Kaneshiro of Kailua-Kona; eight Grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Joseph Kaipo Jr.

Joseph “Bully” Iokewe Kaipo, Jr., 76, of Hilo, died Dec. 12, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator with the former HT&T, a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, a member of the ILWU, 645 Mixed Handicap, Wednesday Night Mix and Hawaiian Bowling Club, and also golfed for the Hawaiian Golf Club.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Antoinette Kaipo of Hilo; daughters, Mechelle Kaipo and Jonette (Dennis Jr.) Figueroa of Hilo; hanai daughters, Tracy (Kaleo) Arruda of Hilo and Amy (Paul) Salvido of Honolulu; sons, Joseph Kaipo III of Hilo and Travis (Tricia) Santa-Isabel of Mountain View; sisters, Betty (Vicente) Pelanca and Geraldine Kaipo-Kawasaki of Hilo; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; numerous hanai grand- and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Kekoa Torres

Kekoa Gabriel Pulino Torres, 24, of Hilo, died Nov. 13, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was an auto repairman.

He is survived by a daughter of Hilo; hanai mother, Johnalin Paulino of Hilo; brothers, Kawika Paulino of Hilo and Kainoa Torres of Las Vegas; sister, Jennasis Torres of Honolulu; father, David Martin Torres of Honolulu; paternal grandmother, Annette Torres of Las Vegas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

George Henas

George Alexander Henas, 91, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 3, 2020, at Legacy of Hilo. Born June 14, 1929, in Sacramento, he was a newspaper advertiser, a jazz drummer, a member of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of California, and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by wife, Rhonda Henas of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Carrie Henas of Kailua-Kona; son, Dane (Susan) Henas of Sacramento; sister, Lynn (Ron) Roenspie of California; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

David Paul

David Timothy Paul, 59, of Hilo, died Sept. 1, 2020, at Hilo medical center. Born in California, he was a ethnobotanist.

He is survived by spouse, Valerie Hopkins of Keaau; mother, Shirley Paul of Columbia, Pennsylvania; brothers, Daniel Paul of Hilo, Dean Paul of British Columbia, Canada; sister, Deborah Kirkland of Kingston, Tennessee; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

David Durkee

David Michael Durkee, 80, of Hilo, died Dec. 20, 2020, at Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Tacoma, Washington, he was in retail sales at the former Fireplace & Home Center in Downtown Hilo.

Kaleo Cachero

Kaleo Malama Aaron Cachero, 27, of Pahoa, died Dec. 13, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Hilo.

He is survived by mother, Imelda Giltner of Hilo; grandmother, Mary Cachero of Pahoa; three brothers; three sisters; and uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Andrew Hayes

Andrew Christopher Hayes, 50, of Renton, Washington, and formerly of South Kohala, died Dec. 5, 2020, in Renton, Washington. Born April 26, 1970, in Everett, Washington, he was a partner with South Kohala Housekeeping.

He is survived by son, Daylan Merrifield; parents, Gus and Janet Hayes; siblings, Lori (Mike) Caviezel and Gus Hayes Jr.; granddaughters, Cami and Lily; uncle, Jim (Jean) Myers; partner, Melissa Main, of the Big Island; and nieces and nephews.
