Christine Mattos

Christine Gonsalves Vierra Mattos, 90, of Hilo, died Dec. 4, 2020, at her residence. Born Feb. 6, 1930 in Paauhau, she was a housewife and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 16 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 10:30 a.m. family service and 11 a.m. prayer service. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Section 4.

She is survived by sons, Dennis (Leilani) Vierra, Dale Mattos and Randy Mattos, all of Hilo, Darrell (Rene) Mattos of Keaau, and Eugene (Sylvia) Vierra of Kaneohe, Oahu; daughters, Annette O’Brien of Hilo, Antoinette (Rodney) Castillo, Linda (Victor) Souza and Adele (Ray) Janes, all of Keaau, and Priscilla (Robert) Gomez of Bell Flower, California; brother, Manuel Gonsalves of Oregon; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

George Alameda Jr.

George “Bully” Alameda Jr., 85, of Hilo, died Dec. 25, 2020, at his residence. Born in Waiakea, he was a retired plumber for Alameda’s Plumbing, a member of UA Local 675, and a member of the Hawaii Island Senior Basketball Circuit playing for Waiakea Pirates and Keaukaha teams, the Keaukaha Community Association and Malia Puka O Kalani Church.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 15 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a drive-through service. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park Section 7 at 1:15 p.m. Casual attire.

He is survived by children, Chad (Rosalyn) Alameda, Lono (Moe) Nakashima, Gary Alameda, Janella (Keone) Alameda, Avonelle Alameda, Tina Alameda and Guy (Deanne) Alameda, all of Hilo; siblings, Edna (Lionel) Azevedo, Alice (Billy) Harbottle, and Samuel (Diane) Alameda, all of Hilo, Leonetta (Richard) Garcia of Seattle, and Gordon Kanani Alameda of Waimanalo, Oahu; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
