John Dignan
John Dignan, 72, of Hilo, died on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, after battling cancer. Born in Minot, N.D., Aug. 26, 1948, he retired from the Internal Revenue Service and moved to Hilo.
Preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Laura Dignan and two siblings Mary Dignan and Ann Dignan. He is survived by sisters, Kathleen (Donald) Robichaud of Warwick, R.I., Jean (Marion) Cook of Martinsville, IL, and Dorothy (Si Tae) Cho of East Ridge, TN; brother, Robert (Louise) Dignan of Warroad, MN; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Lily Farm
Lily Loka Farm, 97, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 14, 2021, at the Regency at Hualalai. Born July 27, 1923 in Kaauhuhu, North Kohala, she was a retired front desk clerk for Kona Tiki, former food and cocktail waitress, a special education school bus driver, cook for Kona Head Start and member of Kona Hawaii Pidgin Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Philemon Aranaydo
Philemon “Billy Boy” Aranaydo, 84, of Keaau, died Dec. 17, 2020, at a care home. Born March 8, 1936, in Honolulu, he was a retired union laborer and member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 368 and U.S. Army Korean War veteran.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 5 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial follows at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn. Seating is limited and face masks and social distancing required.
He is survived by wife, Susanna Aranaydo of Keaau; sons, Zachary (Alfreda Hart) Aranaydo of Waimea, Andre (Lorene) Aranaydo and Howard (Marilyn) Aranaydo of Keaau, Kevin (Nora) Aranaydo of Pahoa; daughter, Christy (Don) Coloma of Keaau; brothers, Edward (Geri) Aranaydo of Pearl City, Oahu, Gerald Sr. (Linda) Aranaydo of Pahoa; sisters, Doris (Gilbert Sr.) Yrojo of Las Vegas, Marilyn (Frank) Salgado of Omaha, Neb.; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Walter Pilor
Walter “Wally” Pilor, 77, of Hawi, died Dec. 3, 2020, at Kohala Hospital. Born Nov. 10, 1943, in Laupahoehoe, he was a retired general superintendent for the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Shop 38 Nuclear Submarine Repair Facility, an avid fisherman, U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi.

He is survived by wife, Grace Pilor of Hawi; children, Kevin (Wyomie) Pilor of Honolulu, Kari (Kirk) Bailey of Waianae, Oahu, Sean Simon of San Jose, Calif.; brothers, Jeffrey (Grace) Pilor of Hilo, Vernon Pilor of Waimea; sisters, Florence (Howard) Dawana of Keaau, Wanda (Rex) Dalere of Hilo; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Emiko Sugikawa
Emiko Sugikawa, 97, of Hilo and formerly of Laupahoehoe, died Dec. 14 at a private care home. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and member of the Papaaloa Hongwanji Mission and Fujinkai.

Jerry Glander
Jerry Alan Glander, 82, of Keaau, died Jan. 11, 2021, at home. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Sept. 18, 1938, he was a retired San Bernardino County building inspector and a retired director of Building and Safety Department in the city of Grand Terrace.

He is survived by his wife, Nani Glander; daughter, Janie Lee (Rolf) Drinhaus; two sons, Tom (Tami) Glander and Scott Glander; sister, Jean (Gary) Steger; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews; and two cousins.

Desiree Keahi-Broad
Desiree “Dez” Inea Keahi-Broad, 49, of Hilo, died May 4, 2020. Born Feb. 8, 1971, in Honolulu, she was a homemaker and a member of Glad Tidings Church, and Halau Na Pua O’ Uluhaimalama.
A drive-by service will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Feb. 13, at 303 Keonaona St.

Michael Edward Keapolani Glendon, 38, of Kapu’euhi, died Jan. 13, 2021, at his residence. Born in Honolulu, he was the owner of Hawaii Island Rain Gutters.

Sam Wesley Torkelson, 90 of Hilo, died on Jan. 3, 2021, at home. Born in Minnesota, he was a cook in Alaska.
