Stephan Paul Zulawinski, 68, of Ocean View, died Jan. 15, 2021, in Ocean View. Born April 10, 1952, in Gary, Indiana, he worked as a Union Electrician, Local 697.

He is survived by spouse Patti; step-son Adam Marzullo of Valparaiso, Indiana; brother Mark (Diana) Zulawinski of Hobart, Indiana; one grandchild; a niece; and a step-grandson.

Leonardo Ragpala

Leonardo “Smiley” Galima Ragpala, 76, of Honokaa, died Jan. 21, 2021, at her residence. Born July 18, 1944, in Bacnotan, La Union, Philippines, he was a retired sugar cane field instrumentalist for the former Hamakua Sugar Plantation Co. and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 6 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. Mass.

He is survived by daughters, Marita Ragpala and Leenelle (Uelese) Pola, all of Honokaa; sons, Elmer (Cheri) Ragpala of Honokaa and Donel (Shady) Ragpala of Washington; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Pearl Tong Chang

December 27, 1937 – January 5, 2021

Pearl Tong Chang, 83, of Kailua Kona, Hawaii died January 5, 2021 in Kailua Kona. She was born December 27, 1937, in Shanghai, China.

She is survived daughters Jade (Randall) Chang-Lockwood of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; Hope (Tom Nguyen) Chang of California and four grandchildren.

Clarisse Obasa

Clarisse Yumi Obasa, 43, of Kurtistown, died Jan. 11, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 28, 1977, in Hilo, she formerly worked at Sack-n-Save in Hilo as a food preparation assistant.

She is survived by daughter, Kiani Aiwohi of Kurtistown; parents, Yoshio and Marcia Obasa of Kurtistown; brother, Blayne Obasa of Hilo; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Michael Souza

Michael Souza, 95, of Hilo died Jan. 9, 2021, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Hospice Facility. Born in Hilo, he was a retired truck driver for the County of Hawaii and U.S. Army World War II veteran.

He is survived by sons, Dennis (Fran) Souza of Tacoma, Washington, and Leroy Souza of Reno, Nevada; daughters, Charlene McCoy of Reno, Nevada, Arlene Takara of Pepeekeo, Donna (Julio) Pasamonte of Kailua-Kona, and Darlene (Shelby) Ancheta of Keaau; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother; a sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alfred Leite Jr.

Alfred “Freddy” “Jr.” Leite Jr., 87, of Papaikou, died Jan. 23, 2021, at his residence. Born Aug. 5, 1933, in Pepeekeo, he was a retired harvesting foreman for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co. and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 2 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Burial to follow at Mauna Kea Memorial Park in Papaikou. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by wife, Norma Leong Leite of Papaikou; son, Randy (Maggie) Leite of Papaikou; daughters, Debra (Jesse) Leite-Hulama of Hilo and Blossom Leite of Illinois; brothers, Walter (Luana) Leite of Hilo, Herbert (Paula Rodrigues) Leite, Gabriel Leite, and Harold (Janice) Leite, all of Papaikou, and Michael (Sandy) Leite of Mountain View; sisters, Betty Puakea of Hilo and Marie Matsumura of Papaikou; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Carl “Bud” Robin Boege, 59, of Kailua-Kona, died Dec. 29, 2020, at Kona Community Hospital. Born April 24, 1961, in Portland, Oregon, he was a wood artist, former prep cook, martial artist and laborer.

Benjamin Davidson

Benjamin Craig Davidson, 41 of Hilo, died Dec. 18, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Coos Bay Oregon, he worked for the Spotlight Maintenance, and was a member of the 808 Bangahz.

He is survived by his spouse, Jade Navor; father, Michael (Patricia) Davidson; mother, Cynthia (John Brown) Carr; sons, Jayben Navor and Jonah Navor Davidson; daughter, Jaylee-Ann Davidson; sisters, Jenny Davidson, Sarah Davidson and Kimberly Brookins; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
