Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for suspected drunken driving Jan. 25 and Sunday. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

Kona and South Hilo officers arrested eight drivers in each district while Puna officers arrested six and South Kohala officers three, according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department.

So far this year, there have been 110 DUI arrests compared with 97 during the same period last year, according to police.

There have been 57 major accidents so far this year compared with 85 during the same period last year.

Three fatalities have been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways this year, police said. By this time in 2020, three people had died.
