Don Tua’au

Don Richard Tua’au, 55, of Hilo, died Jan. 30, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 4, 1965, in San Francisco, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator at Puna Rock Co., Ltd. in Keaau, and was formerly employed as a truck driver at Cantor Bros. Transport Services, Don’s Hauling and Rental, Inc., CPM and F, Kaiawe Trucking, Inc., Kiyosaki Tractor Works, Inc. and Hilo Products, Inc.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Feb. 13 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 6 p.m. service. Casual attire is required.

He is survived by wife, Connie Haimoto-Tua’au, of Hilo; sons, Casey Tua’au and Codey Tua’au, both of Hilo; brothers, Phipps Tua’au of Alaska and Misipati Byrd of Oahu; sisters, Dorothy (Richard) Maifea of Washington, Lillian (Miki) Alaelua of Alaska and Debbie Kaufmann of Arizona; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tanya Lee

Tanya Lee Lee, 68 of Pahoa, died Jan. 28, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a self-employed entrepreneur and a member of Koa Puna.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 20 at Thy Word Ministries in Hilo for a service.

She is survived by spouse, Alfred Lee Jr.; mother, Violet Nakea; sons, Guy Lee and Jack Lee; daughter, Shorinna Andrade; brother, Tobias Nakea; sisters, Corinna Nakea-Francisco, Floris Sizar, Anna Sacay, and Joanella Jennings; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Janice McCurry

Janice Ann “Eleu” McCurry, 85, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 29, 2021, at her residence. Born Aug. 4, 1935, in Chariton, Missouri, she was a retired secretary for Hospice of Kona, former member and secretary for Crystal Cathedral of Garden Grove, and an elementary school teacher.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 13 at Kona Faith Center in Captain Cook for a 10 a.m. service. The family requests flowers be omitted. For information, call or text (808) 938-7283.

Howard Ackerman

Howard W. Ackerman, 88, of Kealakekua, died Jan. 26, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 23, 1932, in Kealakekua, he was a lineman for HELCO.

He is survived by wife, Harriet Ackerman of Kealakekua; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joan Shibuya

Joan Kiyoko Shibuya, 84, of Hilo, died Jan. 28, 2021, in Hilo. Born April 7, 1936, in Hilo, she was the proprietor of Bob’s Fender Shop, Inc. in Hilo.

Private services held. The family requests no flowers or koden (monetary contributions).

She is survived by daughter, Debbie Omori of Hilo; sister, Linda (Michael) Inouye of Cerritos, California; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and cousins.
